Essential Functions
Performs Geographic Information System (GIS) tasks in support of engineering and operations related projects; tracks and maintains the records related to those assignments.
- Collaborate with GIS management and / or other departments to gather project requirements and to identify, secure, and manage resources (internal or external) required to complete assignments and projects.
- Develop relationships with internal / external customers and contractors to facilitate project completion.
- Serve as a liaison between the Engineering group and the GIS Department at CenterPoint Energy.
- Ensure adherence to established procedures to carry out the maintenance of key graphical and non-graphical data, maps, records, and other information required for the department's various business processes in support of internal and external customers.
- Manage multiple assignments and priorities concurrently. Prioritize projects and tasks to meet customer’s needs and expectations in a timely manner.
- Utilize GIS skills to support internal clients and provide information and database updates as requested through GIS analysis and report generation.
- Analyze and interpret spatial data to ensure system integrity.
- Assist customers and employees with basic facility information inquiries.
- Create and run queries of GIS data to provide easier access and retrieval of CNP infrastructure information from GIS database to support statistical analysis and creation of accurate maps, plans, reports, and database maintenance.
- Collect information and compile data to quantify gas facilities within specific geographical boundaries.
- Create basic, presentation-quality maps, in digital and paper formats, for a variety of internal stakeholders.
- Create and edit scale dependent layers, map labels, annotation, symbology, representations, and legends.
- Interpret construction designs and drawings of both existing and proposed gas distribution facilities.
- Digitize projects or corrections based on available documentation.
- Perform GIS attribute and geometric network editing in a continuous effort to keep the GIS databases current.
- Perform quality assurance checks of assets being digitized into or modified in GIS to ensure GIS production standards are maintained.
- Log and track correction and special project requests. Maintain complete documentation from the issue origination to the final resolution.
- Perform post-resolution follow-ups to ensure that all problems or issues have been adequately resolved.
- Research, quantify, organize, and report asset and business data.
- Recognize and report data / process anomalies.
- Handle problem recognition, research, isolation, resolution, and follow-up for routine problems, referring more complex problems to Team Leader or Technical Support.
- Identify potential improvements to work processes.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of internal process documentation.
- Develop industry-specific skills and knowledge.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project), and ArcGIS Pro. Proficiency with ArcGIS Online is preferred.
- Achieve individual and departmental annual performance objectives established with manager.
- Work flexible hours when required to meet critical deadlines.
- Participate in emergency response (EOP) activities as needed.
- Carry out general office functions in the support of the GIS department.
- Perform additional duties as apparent or as assigned.
Education Description
Education : Requires a certificate or degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university in GIS, Drafting, Engineering, or closely related field (two years of GIS work experience may be substituted for education).
Experience : No experience necessary.
