Job Title: Phlebotomist
Centers Laboratory is seeking Part-time Phlebotomists to work at a Skilled Nursing Facility in Hudson, NY.
About the Role:
Phlebotomists are healthcare professionals responsible for drawing blood from patients. They play a crucial role in ensuring accurate test results by following strict safety procedures and proper record-keeping practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- ID Patient accurately using wristband, documents or visual identification
- Assemble supplies and equipment for specimen collection according to established standards, policies, and procedures
- Identify priorities such as Stat, timed, or routine assignments
- Determine suitable venipuncture methods based on patient age, health etc.
- Reassure patients and help them relax
- Find suitable veins for puncture
- Draw blood using proper equipment and techniques
- Maintain sharps, needles, and equipment out of reach of patients and dispose properly
- Follow proper test tube order of draw
- Use personal protective equipment
- Evaluate samples for quality and quantity
- Label test tubes correctly and send for testing
- Avoid attempting to draw more than two times per patient and seek assistance when needed
- Answer patient questions and provide useful information
- Maintain accurate patient records
- Adhere to health and safety standards while working
- Monitor patient reactions and equipment operations
- Provide immediate after-care instructions
- Maintain a clean and sanitary workspace
- Pursue additional training if necessary
- Ensure patient confidentiality
- Attend required meetings and training programs
Requirements:
- High school degree or equivalent
- Phlebotomy Technician certificate (preferred)
- Completion of a hospital or major lab training program (for those without a certificate)
- Understanding of standard blood drawing practices and procedures
- 2 years proven experience as a phlebotomist
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts
- Strict adherence to safety regulations and operating instructions
- Knowledge of aseptic and sterilization techniques
- Valid State issued driver's license with a good driving record
- Adequate automobile insurance and access to a reliable vehicle
