The CENTERS team is innovative, entrepreneurial, trail-blazing, and ambitious for both CENTERS and our clients. Today, CENTERS provides management services for 14 clients.
Responsibilities
The Coordinator, Adventure Recreation is responsible for the full portfolio of Adventure Recreation programming, staffing, operations, and risk management for our Jacksonville State University client. At Jax State, the portfolio includes programming for an active climbing and bouldering community, year-round adventure trip programs, gear rentals, bike rentals, special events, and skill training. This position will report to the Associate Director of Programs and collaborate with campus and CENTERS colleagues.
Essential Functions:
- Lead comprehensive climbing wall management including training, operations, maintenance coordination, and inspections
- Develop and offer climbing clinics and training. Manage route setting and ensure route quality
- Manage the operations of the adventure recreation center including the gear rental and bike rental program
- Coordinate adventure recreation trips and clinics year-round. Occasionally lead adventure trips
- Develop and execute adventure recreation programming and special events
- Create and administer a team building program to serve the campus and surrounding community
- Assist with budget development and the monitoring of income and expense budgets
- Participate in CENTERS meetings and trainings, setting CENTERS standards for operations, and innovation
- Prepare and deliver required and requested reports and data to the client and CENTERS central office
Staff Supervision:
- Recruit, schedule, select, train, and manage part-time adventure recreation staff
- Responsible for approving timecards and preparing necessary documents/reports for bi-weekly payroll
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree OR 4 years of work experience
- Wilderness first responder or equivalent
- Valid Driver’s license and a clean driving record
- Previous experience with climbing wall management, route setting, guiding, or wilderness-based activity instruction.
Preferred:
- Single Pitch Instructor (SPI)
- Leave No Trace Educator Training
- International Mountain Bicycling Association certification
- American Canoe Association Certification for kayaking instruction or swift water rescue
- Previous experience working with students

- Must be able to ascend climbing wall and bouldering wall and traverse uneven ground in field
- Must be able to lift, move and set up items weighing as much as 50 lbs.
- Must be able to discuss, converse with, and exchange accurate information with arena patrons, staff, stakeholders, etc.
