Responsibilities
The Loading Dock Master will coordinate all functions at the loading dock to support the success of the Hopkins Student Center's operations, customer service, and events. They will work closely with delivery vendors and manage traffic flow at the dock. The Loading Dock Master is responsible for receiving and documenting all goods and materials ordered by the Hopkins Student Center for facility operations, tenants, and renters. Additionally, they will assist with overall building operations as needed. This position will be supervised by the Executive Director of the Hopkins Student Center and will work closely with the Operations Managers to ensure successful facility operations. This position will work on-site at Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus. JHU is recognized as America’s first research university, a place that has revolutionized higher education in the U.S. and continues to bring knowledge and discoveries to the world. JHU is opening its first-ever student center in August 2025. The 148,000 gross square feet Hopkins Student Center (HSC) will transform the student experience by providing spaces, amenities, and opportunities for students who want to socialize, connect, create, and relax. The building is designed to be a welcoming environment for all Hopkins students while extending an invitation to the community through events, programs, and dining opportunities.
Essential Functions
- Monitors and coordinates entry of delivery drivers and traffic within the dock.
- Ensures deliveries are intended for the HSC via proper Purchase Order and Point of Contact review.
- Maintains a clean and organized dock to promote a safe environment.
- Responsible for the organization and maintenance of assigned supply locations.
- Provides materials and equipment requested in a timely manner.
- Assists with event or building set up as needed.
- Ensures supplies are in a clean and safe working condition and environment.
- Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.
- Problem-solve and offer support as needed.
- Assist Finance processes and paperwork. Assist in end-of-month inventories.
- Assist with managing the workflow between vendors, invoices, and packing slips.
- Receive: Items, Beverages, Food Products, Dry Goods, Chemicals, and Major Equipment.
- Inspect and unpack all merchandise received, and stock/store it.
- Delivers and/or coordinates package pick up to all outlets on property.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Vocational schooling a plus
- A minimum of four years working experience in warehouse, shipping, deliveries, distribution or similar environment
Skills and Abilities
- Must pass a background check
- Team player with general disposition to assist others
- General mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge of facility operations and safety practices
- Ability to plan and execute work activities effectively
- Strong interpersonal communication skills to interact with stakeholders and vendors
- Ability to perform basic mathematics for calculations and budgeting tasks
- Ability to demonstrate physical dexterity and to lift 75 pounds
- Proficiency in computer-based data entry, email communication, and scheduling
