Job Details
The Manager of Utilities is responsible for overseeing the efficient and reliable operation of utility services for our data center colocation facilities. This role includes managing utility contracts, optimizing energy usage, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in energy management and utilities procurement, with experience in the data center or related industries.
To be successful, you will need to maintain detailed records and produce documentation relating to energy consumption and energy management, utilized to track developments and make comparisons in the future. It will be necessary to keep up to date on the latest regulations relating to energy consumption and hazardous emissions to make sure that Centersquare DC complies with all relevant legislation.
Responsibilities:
Utility Management:
- Oversee the procurement, management, and monitoring of electricity, water, gas, and other utility services.
- Analyze and manage utility consumption and costs, identifying opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with utility providers and negotiate contracts to ensure optimal service and pricing.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal utility regulations and reporting requirements.
- Stay informed of regulatory changes and assess their potential impact on operations.
Vendor and Stakeholder Management:
- Build and maintain relationships with utility providers, contractors, and key stakeholders.
- Coordinate with internal teams, including operations, engineering, finance, accounting and sustainability, to align utility management with broader business goals.
- Provide regular reports and insights to senior leadership on utility performance metrics and cost savings.
Crisis and Risk Management:
- Develop contingency plans for utility service interruptions.
- Collaborate with the facilities team to ensure backup systems are operational and tested regularly.
Required Skills:
- 5 years of experience in utility management, energy procurement, or facilities management, preferably in a data center or high-tech environment.

- Project planning and management – The ability to direct and guide a group in completing tasks and attaining goals of the Energy management system after energy efficiency assessment.
- In-depth knowledge of energy markets, utility rate structures, and demand management programs.
- Strong analytical and negotiation skills, with the ability to interpret utility data and manage complex contracts.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in utility management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
