The mission of Centinela Youth Services, Inc. (CYS) is to strengthen families and communities by empowering youth to resolve conflicts and overcome obstacles in order to become successful students and contributing adults. CYS is a 501c3 non-profit, restorative justice organization established in 1975. CYS operates a variety of innovative programs proven to increase student performance; reduce school dropout rates, gang involvement, youth violence and crime and ultimately help preserve families. CYS is leading innovation that is transforming youth justice in LA and the state, with a commitment to both youth development and serving victims of youth crime, while impacting systemic change to end the school to prison pipeline. CYS is also providing leadership to critical juvenile justice reform in LA County, and as a result is growing rapidly.

CYS is seeking an expert in people development with a track record in leading successful teams, to lead and support our caring team of case managers, policy change makers and operations/administrative staff to maximize agency impact and employee satisfaction.

Compensation

This is an exempt full-time position, including benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience. All full-time employees are invited to participate in the company’s health benefits package after completing the 60-90-day employment introductory period. Our benefits program includes select health plans and dental plans at 100% cost reimbursement (for employee only), vision insurance, time off accruals and holiday pay.

Work Location

This position will be temporarily split between remote work and work at our Inglewood office, with meetings in the field around the LA Area, until such a time that CYS is able to move into and operate fully from the Inglewood office.

Schedule

This is a full-time position. CYS has the following 9/80 work schedule: Monday – Thursday, 8am – 6pm. Friday, 8am – 5pm, with every other Friday off.

General Functions and Responsibilities: Reporting to the Executive Director, this senior leadership position is responsible for oversight of day-to-day operations of this agency with a staff of 30 that is rapidly growing to 40 this year, with 60 volunteers. This critical role is the strategic leader focused on program execution and the operations that support programs. The Deputy Director is responsible for the people and processes that deliver quality and continuity of service while ensuring the CYS team is appropriately supported, equipped, and empowered. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Serve as the internal, day-to-day leader of the organization, exemplifying CYS’ core values.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director on strategic planning, coordination, and management of CYS programs and projects.
  • Utilize data systems to analyze the performance of all programs and projects.
  • Serve on the CYS management team and provide leadership to promote successful communication, team cohesion, and well-being among all CYS team members.
  • Work with all members of CYS leadership, including the Board, to ensure coordination for strategic planning and sustainability.
  • Provide clinical expertise and leadership that (a) supports the professional development of CYS clinical staff and (b) facilitates the solution of problems related to clients’ complex (and always-evolving) needs.
  • Provide intellectual leadership to agency-wide strategies based on research in the fields of Youth Diversion, Restorative Justice, trauma, and the juvenile justice system.
  • Ensure achievement of grant goals, reporting requirements and renewal applications for an estimated 15-20 grants.
  • Equip and empower the CYS team so as to advance the organization’s advocacy strategies dedicated to meeting equity objectives.
  • Ensure the implementation of high-quality human resources policies, including the use of performance improvement plans, coaching, mentoring, and training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Passion for adolescent development, Restorative Justice, juvenile justice diversion and criminal justice reform.
  • Outstanding management skills, including the ability to implement best practices in service of staff engagement and high-quality outcomes.
  • Experience in directing clinical teams whose members possess a variety of skills sets and experiences.
  • Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong advocacy and diplomacy skills and an ability to understand different perspectives and find common ground.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and proven track record of successfully creating and implementing partnerships.
  • Strong experience in staff supervision, including workload distribution and building excellent teams.
  • Expertise in negotiating and reviewing contracts.
  • Project management experience and ability to use data/software tools to manage and monitor workflow.
  • Ability to travel between and work from various L.A. County area locations
  • Must have reliable transportation; valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance when/if applicable.
  • Must be able to pass background clearances.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, psychology, social work, or a related field.
  • Preferred: Graduate degree in nonprofit management, psychology, social work, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in a similar management role, or the equivalent combination of education/experience.

Working Conditions

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license, have use of a motor vehicle and be able to provide evidence of automobile liability insurance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
