What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Prescription (CMG Lynchburg/FT/Days) position at Centra Medical Group?
The Prescription Assistant facilitates the management of prescription refills and samples within the ambulatory practice. This position functions under the direction of the nursing supervisor or pharmacist and acts as an agent of the provider.
Required Education: High School Diploma / GED
Preferred Education: Associates of Science in Science
Required Experience: Completes/Maintains annual education required by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and the Virginia Pharmacists Association (VPhA)
Required Certifications and Licensures: Current Pharmacy Technician license with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy
Medications prior authorizations: paper forms/electronic, assists patients with form completions to drug company
If criteria are satisfied, create, and send a PROPOSED refill request to the authorized provider for co-signature
Review incoming refill requests using a shared RX inbox
Assist in the management of samples for practice
Compare each request against the relevant clinical protocol and verify that the appropriate criteria have been met
If the criteria are not satisfied, send an inbox message to the authorized provider or their office pool to indicate that a refill request has been received but is not able to be immediately fulfilled
Alerts physicians and nursing supervisor of possible misuse of prescription drugs by patients
Review paper faxes: duplication resolve/complete
May perform other duties as assigned or requested and job specification can be modified or updated at any time
