What are the responsibilities and job description for the MLS II- CC Med Onc Lab/PRN Days position at Centra Medical Group?
The MLS II position performs routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. It also does additional duties to include at least one item from two different categories: EDUCATION: Presentations to groups or employees for CE. Train new staff and or students; precepting. Career Fairs. Perform in-services. Maintenance of specialist certification Research project. PROJECTS: CAP inspections. Lab week committee member. New test or procedures. Help with new install of equipment. Validate and update procedures. Student mentor. EQUIPMENT QUALITY: Linearity studies. Training on new equipment- primary operator. Ownership of maintenance on equipment. Monitor QC and report issues to supervisor or manager.
Required Education: Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology or Laboratory Science, successful completion of an approved Medical Technologist (MLS) program, or ASCP qualified by years of experience
Required Experience: Must be an employee in good standing with solid or better on their last evaluation. Two (2) years of service as a certified technologist
Required Certifications and Licensures: Medical Technologist or MLS certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent registry
Conducts chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood or urine, using microscope or automatic analyzer to detect abnormalities or diseases and enter findings into computer
Analyzes the results of tests or experiments to ensure conformity to specifications, using special mechanical or electrical devices
Performs and evaluates lab tests on patients of all ages in accordance with departmental policies and procedures
Performs phlebotomy procedures: Processes other specimens in accordance with departmental protocols. Operates bedside glucose meter in accordance with written policies. Plates microbiology specimens
Maintains/records strict Quality Control on all test procedures and instruments in accordance with departmental protocol
Calibrates, troubleshoots, performs preventative maintenance on various instruments and documents all pertinent information in accordance with departmental protocols
Assists with departmental activities in Quality Assurance, Transfusion services, TQM, and productivity analysis
Conduct duties in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation (COLA), and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards
Performs clerical duties associated with test reporting, delivery, maintenance and retrieval within the hospital
Performs Competency testing for MLT staff or MLS staff when assigned to do the task
Provides care appropriate to the age, spiritual, and cultural needs of the patient served
