What are the responsibilities and job description for the Oncology Scheduling Specialist-Cancer Center- FT/Days position at Centra Medical Group?
The Oncology Scheduling Specialist performs patient scheduling functions for appointments within our facility and for outside facilities. The position requires an understanding of complex treatment regimens to ensure correct timing and duration of appointments. Oncology Scheduling Specialist are responsible for coordinating complex interactions among physicians, patients, nurses and other facilities to ensure well-coordinated, timely care for patients.
Required Education: High School Diploma
Required Experience: Medical Experience/Medical Terminology
Preferred Experience: At least 1 year of Medical office experience (scheduling patients, scheduling radiology procedures, etc)
Schedule patient appointments to coordinate with complex treatment regimen timelines and provider requirements, along with scans and other outside provider appointments
Interact with patients, providers, and other staff both within the practice and at outside facilities providing accurate, timely and responsive information
Inform patients on preparation for a variety of scans, which may include adjustments to medications and/or diet
Communicate to multiple teams throughout the Cancer Center upon provider order of scans, treatment, or other services, to ensure engagement of all supporting teams (financial assistance, prior authorization, etc)
Follow up with patients regarding missed appointments, and coordinate rescheduling to adhere to treatment timeline and physician requirements
Manage inter-office messages to ensure timely adjustment and communication of patient appointments
Coordinate processes and route all paperwork as required to meet physician and facility requirements
Demonstrate courtesy and helpfulness toward patients and their caregivers
Must be proficient at using dual monitors and multi-line phones while navigating at least three software programs simultaneously
