The Private Branch Exchange (PBX) Operator manages telephone calls for the Centra hospitals and medical offices, including emergency line telephone. This position is the communications connection and provides information services to the public, physicians, patients, and staff from a central switchboard. In addition, this position is responsible for rapid response to multiple alarms.
Required Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
Public relations or customer service experience
Phone, computer experience
Multiline phone experience
Operates communication systems, such as telephone, switchboard,
intercom, two-way radio, or public address.
Answers incoming calls, greeting callers, providing information, transferring calls, or taking messages as necessary.
Routes emergency calls appropriately.
Uses paging or interoffice communication equipment to announce.
emergency codes.
Relays or routes written or verbal messages.
Places telephone calls or arrange conference calls as instructed.
Sorts and distributes mail and places postage on outgoing mail.
Monitors fire alarm to ensure that secure conditions are maintained.
Contacts security, housekeeping, and maintenance staff members when necessary, using radio/telephones.
Keeps records of calls placed for paging, on call, and emergency codes.
Demonstrates an awareness of appropriate confidentiality rules and regulations and acts accordingly.
