What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN Patient Safety Consultant-LGH-FT/Days position at Centra Medical Group?
The Patient Safety Specialists will be responsible for planning organizing and facilitating programs policies and practices to ensure that all clinical departments are in compliance with the Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG's) and Centra's established patient safety program. Will collect data through chart reviews and other methods; work with members of Performance Improvement Nurses Physicians and ancillary departments to identify opportunities for patient safety clinical outcomes and practice variation; and assist with driving improvements.
Required: Graduate of a school of nursing.
Preferred: BSN is preferred.
Required Experience: At least three years of clinical experience.
Required Certification & Licensures: Hold a current, active license as a registered nurse in Virginia or hold a current multistate licensure privilege as a registered nurse.
Assist with identification of strategies to create and reinforce a culture of safety and continuous preparedness for NPSGs.
Collaborates with Patient Safety Director to identify and develop policy and procedures effecting patient safety.
Communicate and collaborate with administration nursing and medical staff leadership to identify ways to support a culture a patient safety.
Coordinates an ongoing patient safety orientation and continuing education program for all staff members that is approved by Centra Patient Safety Director.
Coordinates Patient Safety activities.
Coordinates with management staff to ensure organizational compliance with all regulations and policies related to patient safety.
Lead investigations for serious safety events using FMEA and/or Root Cause Analysis methodologies; develop action plans and ensure implementation of identified improvements.
Lead projects which will impact patient safety and support the strategic goals of the organization using a variety of process improvement concepts practices and procedures.
Maintains data related to patient safety. Identifies and trends significant outcomes performance data and opportunities to enhance clinical outcomes and patient safety.
Prepares annual report of actual error occurrences and actions taken to improve patient safety.
Provides regular communication regarding patient safety actions and recommendations to patient safety manager committees department directors and employees.
Promotes error/event reporting through a non-punitive error reporting system.
Recognizes groups or individuals demonstrating improvements in patient safety.
Reliable collection of clinical data through effective utilization of the hospital medical record and information systems. May perform other duties as assigned or requested and job specification can be modified or updated at any time.
