Job Summary and Scope
The 31n contracted School Based Behavioral Health Services (SBBHS) Program ensures the development, planning, implementation, monitoring of high-quality prevention, care coordination, educational, and mental health services for general education students experiencing mild to moderate emotional disturbances affecting their educational experience. The school based Behavioral Health Specialist meets with students, families, and school staff to provide education, prevention, consultation, and interventions for students to achieve socioemotional and academic progress. The Bachelor Level Clinician provides best practice behavioral health interventions individually and with the family system, in accordance with their scope of practice.

Position Specific - Duties and Responsibilities
Job Specific: Bachelor Level Social Work or Bachelor in a Human Service-Related degree, work within their scope of practice providing support, evidence-based interventions in prevention and intervention under direct supervision of a master level social worker. The school-based clinician provides support, education, prevention, and coordination of services for clients and their families.
The Bachelor Level clinician will hold a caseload of students, focus on skill building, social emotional learning including cognitive coping, affect regulation, psychoeducation, and relaxation skills either 1-on-1 or in small groups. They also assist parents/caregiver in understanding student behavioral health needs and support services offered. They would also help with coordinating services/meeting basic needs of the student/family by monitoring, linking, referring as needed. They provide brief interventions for emotional support and regulation, and services to aid students and parent/caregivers in understanding behavioral health needs, coordination of care, and support services offered. All services provided are to be in the person’s scope of practice.
Job duties:
· Will hold a caseload of students, focus on skill building and social emotional learning.
· Provide children and families with coordination of care assuring they receive information, support, linking and monitoring of services as needed/identified by the student and family.
· Assure correct development and implementation of treatment and/or prevention plans using best practice models.
· Will provide direct mental health support to students.
· Provide coordination and referral for students experiencing significant mental health needs.
· Administer behavioral health screening tools.
· Clinical documentation in the electronic record includes amount, scope and duration of services provided per the treatment plan.
· Follow expectations of the Intermediate School District (ISD) reporting and documenting within the electronic record required by the ISD.
· Comply with all CWN policy, DCH, CARF, and Medicaid criteria for clinical documentation for all aspects of the medical record including, but not limited to, intake assessments, person-centered plans, person-centered plan reviews, releases of information, progress/activity notes, annual psycho-social assessments, and discharge summaries.
· Ensures excellent teamwork in all aspects of service implementation through regular meetings and consultation with students, teachers, and families.
· Coordinates and facilitates meetings with families and school staff as requested.
- Works collaboratively with all staff and contracted providers.
- Efficiently and effectively communicates information about prevention interventions updating other team members, school staff and families to assure consistency and success for the student.
- Consults with direct supervisor about any concerns or issues that impact students and/or families care or compliance with regulations within the school district.
- Initial and ongoing training, take part in program monitoring and appraisals.

- Participate in monthly supervision individually and/or assigned group supervision with other teams.

- Recommends interventions and/or modifications to a comprehensive person-centered plan assuring they are guided by the child and driven by the family system.
- Assure referrals to community providers and inpatient services are made appropriately, that all health care and community resources are provided according to client need.
- Document on time all clinical documentation within the EMR assuring it accurately represents the services directed/provided.
- Attentive to use of time, scheduling with students and families, assuring coverage by the team at times schools are open/or in need of added support.
- Promotes recovery and empowers students and families in their ability to make positive life choices while promoting good mental and physical health.
- Provide individual (according to scope of practice) or small-group support/training to named students in areas such as psychoeducation around mental health, coping skills, self-esteem, self-regulation, bullying and interpersonal relationships, and other social conflicts.
- Work with classroom teachers and other professionals on the development of class-wide interventions, individual interventions, functional behavior assessments and behavior interventions plans.

Essential Functions

Qualifications, Skills, and Conditions
Knowledge, Education and Training (licenses, programs, or certificates):
· Bachelor’s degree in social work preferred, or bachelor’s degree in human service-related field. (Some districts will allow a Bachelor of Social Work enrolled in a Master’s degree program in Social Work or Related Field to perform clinical interventions as they move toward a master’s degree).
· Preference for Enrollment or plan to enroll in a program to become a Limited License Social Worker (LLMSW) or a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) within 24 months of their date of hire.
· Will consider an equivalent combination of education and experience which results in the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job requirements.
· Knowledgeable about and actively support 1) culturally competent, recovery-based practices, 2) person centered planning as a shared decision-making process with the individual, who defines his or her own life goals and is assisted in developing a unique path toward those goals and 3) family supported approaches and treatment and 4) a trauma informed culture of safety to aid clients in their recovery process.
Experience: A minimum of two years of progressively more responsible or expansive experience in mental health related field (specifically children and families) needed. Lived experiences with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders valued.
