Job Function:
The Chief Financial Officer serves as the district’s chief financial director, with broad day-to-day responsibility and
accountability for all aspects of the district’s finances. The CFO exercises these broad responsibilities by working with
and through a wide variety of groups and individuals to ensure the organization maintains effective and compliant
financial systems, and to ensure the district achieves its educational goals in a fiscally responsible manner.
Duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned
by the CEO.
Organizational Management and Improvement:
· Collaborates with the CEO in formulating and refining the school’s strategic financial plan to assist in achieving
the school’s mission.
· Primarily responsible for ensuring that the organization’s financial policies and procedures effectively assist
the school in achieving its educational mission.
· Monitors and evaluates, as necessary, all financial functions to determine improvements required.
· Collaborates with a wide variety of personnel to ensure effective communication regarding the financial
operations of the organization.
Financial Management:
· Completes yearly professional development requirements and stays fully informed on all financial and
accounting laws, rules and policies applicable to the organization.
· Ensures all financial and accounting procedures meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
· Develops and implements all financial reporting, including but not limited to monthly Board financial reports,
and any necessary financial reports to administrators, as well as annual financial reports required by any
governmental entity.
· Oversees the collection of all revenues, monitors the cash flow of all funds, and invests excess funds in
accordance with Board policy and state statutes.
· Collaborates with the CEO and other appropriate personnel to develop, implement, oversee, and amend the
annual school district budget and any other budgets necessary for school operations.
· Oversees district responsibility for the required annual audit and any other requested audits.
· Maintains and implements a payroll system meeting all federal, state, and local requirements.
· Maintains and implements a purchasing system that makes optimum use of district resources, and is
responsible for all district interaction with all vendors.
· Maintains a risk management program for the district including recommending and securing proper levels of
insurance coverage, maintenance of policies, inventory, and appraisal documents.
· Implements any new accounting procedures promulgated by state and federal agencies.
Develops and implements training options and/or improvement plans to ensure exemplary, compliant and ethical business operations.
· Develops and analyzes long-term financial plans, including debt service planning, bond analysis, and related fiscal compliance issues.
Accountability/Compliance Management:
· Works collaboratively with the CEO and a wide variety of personnel to ensure that the school is in compliance with all applicable state, federal, and local financial accountability and compliance measures.
· Collaborates with the CEO to ensure accurate district communication regarding financial accountability measures.
· Develops, implements, and monitors all grant applications and expenditures to ensure full federal, state, and local compliance.
· Collaborates with the CEO and a wide variety of personnel to ensure financial and programmatic compliance with all state or federal programs operated by the school.
· Responsible for the preparation and communication of all external financial compliance reports to any federal or state governmental entity.
· Hires, monitors, and evaluates the performance of all necessary staff for the accounting/business office. · Works closely with any auditors regarding any financial compliance or programmatic audits.
Skills/Qualifications
The CFO must be organized, efficient, ethical and well-informed on all aspects of charter school finances and
accounting to ensure fully compliant and fiscally prudent operations across the district. The CFO must demonstrate
the ability to understand the ever-changing compliance and accountability measures applicable to the organization,
and must be dedicated to collaborating with other members of the organization to ensure the success of the school in
achieving those measures.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to grasp, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and /or move up to 25 pounds.
Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from a four-year college or university.
· 3-5 years of related experience.
· MBA and CPA strongly preferred.
· Reliable means of transportation.
