Certified Peer Support Specialist - Parent
Are you a parent or legal guardian with lived experience navigating mental health, substance use, or physical health challenges for your child? Do you want to use your experience to support other families on their journey? If so, we’d love to have you join our team!
What You’ll Do:
As a Certified Peer Support Specialist - Parent, you will play a vital role in supporting families of children with serious emotional disturbances. Using your personal experience and training, you will:
- Provide recovery-oriented support to parents and caregivers.
- Attend treatment team meetings to offer encouragement and guidance.
- Help families navigate multiple agencies and service systems to access the care they need.
- Facilitate structured activities that promote treatment engagement and skill-building.
- Meet with families one-on-one or in groups—in the office, at home, or in the community.
- Offer experience-based perspectives to help families feel heard and empowered.
- Provide intensive support through social, skill-building, and resource-linkage services.
- Document all necessary information within one working day of services provided.
- Meet assigned quarterly service goals and provide transportation when appropriate.
- Continue growing professionally through supervision, training, and workshops.
What You’ll Need:
- Lived experience as a parent or legal guardian of a child with mental health, substance use, or physical health challenges.
- Experience navigating at least two child-serving systems (such as education, mental health, juvenile justice, child welfare, etc.).
- A high school diploma or GED.
- A valid Alabama driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Personal automobile liability coverage of at least $20,000 - $40,000.
- Willingness to obtain Certified Peer Specialist certification through the Alabama Department of Mental Health.
