About the Responsibilities
As a Senior Accountant at CAP, you will lead, oversee, and participate in complex accounting, financial record keeping and computer based systems. To provide independent, advanced accounting and complex computer-based analysis and reporting; to develop advanced accounting applications within the financial system; to maintain overall financial system integrity and professional reporting capability and compliance; to interpret accounting standards and research complex accounting issues and make recommendations.
Some of the specific duties include:
1. Prepare, review and/or approve some routine accounting transactions, non-routine, advanced or complex accounting transactions, including those related to custom accounting applications (e.g. allocation methods), with overall responsibility for assigned funds and accounts. Apply knowledge of advanced accounting principles. Analyze, reconcile and research account balances and transactions and prepare adjustments when necessary. 2. Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the General Ledger. Design reports and logic test to ensure that subsystems and the General Ledger are in agreement. Identify, research and correct imbalances and errors. Lead development and coordinate use of system-based reports. 3. Processes business transactions to support preparation of financial statements and supporting reports. Verify work of assistants and specialist and others for accuracy, proper work methods, and compliance with applicable standards. Prepares adjusting and closing monthly and year end entries to the general ledger. Reviews the recording of transactions for compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and District policies. Works closely with the external auditors. Provides detailed information and research for the external auditors in a timely manner. Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual analyses, reports, financial statements, allocations, tests and reconciliation’s in support of financial and management reporting, key performance indicators, forecasts and audits. 4. Maintain the Chart of Accounts; control opening and closing of General Ledger; publish updates to the Account Coding Handbook. 5. Provides accounting advice, designs and conducts user training for financial systems and processes, tailoring such training to the specific needs of the user.
About the Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in accounting or closely related field with a minimum of six years of progressively responsible accounting experience with at least two of which is directly related to the work of the position.
- Advanced knowledge of computer systems, especially those related to integrated computer/accounting systems. Also advanced proficiency with complex spreadsheet applications.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills. Strong customer service skills. Strong analytical and reasoning skills.
- Highly motivated, self starter with excellent organizational and follow-through skills, persistence, and a strong attention to detail required.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Ability to successfully manage time and multiple competing priorities; able to work well under pressure of time constraints and to meet deadlines. Flexibility to adjust to a constantly changing environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of theory and practice of governmental accounting.
