Position Summary:
The Float Shelter Support Staff provides critical coverage at the downtown shelter location by filling in for shifts when staff are on vacation, sick leave, or on FMLA. This role requires flexibility and adaptability to cover both morning and evening shifts, with work hours ranging between 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Scheduling may vary from week to week depending on operational needs.
As staffing needs stabilize, this role may transition into a more consistent schedule or remain as a floating support position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support to shelter guests, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all residents.
- Assist with shelter operations, including guest intake, bed assignments, and adherence to shelter policies.
- Respond to guest inquiries and address conflicts or incidents in accordance with shelter guidelines.
- Maintain accurate documentation of shift activities and incident reports.
- Collaborate with the shelter management team to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Support meal service distribution and assist with cleaning and sanitizing common areas as needed.
- Participate in regular staff meetings and training sessions.
- Other Duties as assigned
Schedule:
- Must be available to work flexible shifts between 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM as needed.
- Schedule may vary weekly based on coverage requirements.
Role will be eligible for a more fixed schedule as shifts become available or may remain a float position based on operational needs
Requirements:Qualifications:
- Previous experience in social services, shelter operations, or a related field preferred.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
- Flexibility and reliability to adapt to changing schedules.
- Must be compassionate and able to work effectively with diverse populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in social services or related fields is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work in varying indoor and outdoor shelter environments.
