POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Children’s Supports will be responsible for overseeing and managing Section 28 services at Central Aroostook Association. This leadership position involves the development, implementation, and oversight of services for children with intellectual disabilities or autism, ensuring they receive the highest quality care and support. The Director will supervise a team of professionals, collaborate with families and community partners, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead the Children's Supports team, including behavioral health professionals, to ensure effective delivery of services to children and families. Provide direct supervision, guidance, and support to staff members, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.

Ensure Section 28 services are delivered according to state regulations and best practices. Oversee the development and monitoring of individual treatment plans for children in care.

Monitor service delivery and quality to ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, including Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) guidelines. Conduct regular audits and assessments to maintain high standards of care.

Develop and facilitate ongoing training programs for staff to ensure they are up-to-date on best practices, regulatory changes, and organizational policies.

Oversee the budget for Children’s Services, ensuring effective use of resources.

Establish and maintain strong relationships with families, community partners, schools, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care. Act as a liaison between families and the organization.

Work closely with the Executive Director and leadership team to develop and implement strategic plans for the program's growth and continuous improvement.

Advocate for the needs of children with intellectual disabilities or autism within the community and provide education and awareness to foster inclusive environments.

Participate in enterprise risk management process for the Association

Follow quality assurance plan

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move 25 to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. These physical demands will vary depending on the program area.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in a variety of home and work settings where there are individuals that smoke or have pets, and may work near moving mechanical parts. The employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. Exposure to clients who may exhibit verbal and physically aggressive behavior. Risk to exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Noise level can be loud. May be responsible for transporting individuals in their own vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED FOR POSITION:

Experience and Skill Requirements: The following experience and skills are considered essential:

  • Must be able to pass all background checks.
  • Four years professional experience supervising staff working with children with developmental disabilities or a related human services field preferred
  • Listening/comprehension skills, and ability to understand client needs and unidentified challenges.
  • Client-Centered Focus: Conduct that demonstrates commitment to providing excellent service to recipients of services.
  • Personal and Professional Conduct: Actions that characterize high ethical and moral standards and behavior towards others at work and that portray the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Initiative/Creativity: Conduct demonstrating originality and imagination to identify new, efficient, useful methods or improvements to implement Association philosophy.
  • Computer experience using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office software products required; ability to learn and effectively use other software programs as needed.
  • Ability to pass all required trainings, specified by the program.

Education Requirements: The following education requirements are considered essential:

  • Must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work/Social Welfare or a closely related field.
  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: (Required by Program)
  • CPR/First-Aid
  • -within three months
  • Safety Care
  • -within three months
  • Behavioral Health Professional (BHP)
  • -within one year
  • Must maintain a valid State of Maine Driver’s License and be insurable by Central Aroostook Association’s insurance carrier.
