JOB SUMMARY :

Performs all duties associated with overdrawn deposit accounts, including soliciting deposits from customers, charging off accounts in compliance with Bank policy and recommended regulatory practices, decisioning the best course of action for collection of charged off accounts and submits those accounts to the appropriate party. Position will be well cross-trained to assist with installment, credit card and equity line collections.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years banking experience (six months collection experience preferred).
  • QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS REQUIRED :
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Tenacity, tact, and the ability to work without close supervision.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Utilizes core system and collection software to manage an assigned portfolio of overdrawn accounts in all markets.

2. Determines the daily action required for each account contained in assigned queues. Orders appropriate letters from the collection software, processes letters using templates and identifies customer accounts that require personal contact through phone calls.

3. Contacts customers in all bank market areas by telephone to solicit satisfactory arrangements for the re-payment of an overdrawn balance.

4. Contacts bank officers to coordinate efforts to collect on overdrawn deposit accounts.

5. Contacts customers with account problems to discuss resolution of those problems and prevent the account(s) from being charged off. Evaluates the customer’s situation and reasons for the overdraft(s) and determines if there are bank products or services that would assist the borrower in resolving and / or preventing overdrafts.

6. Minimizes losses to the bank by thoroughly researching the total banking relationship of customers with overdrawn accounts. Utilizes the information obtained to resolve the delinquent debt and / or prevent further losses and to determine the appropriate course for collection.

7. Attempts to locate customers whose CIS information are no longer correct through skip tracing techniques; contacts former employers, landlords, relatives or other creditors who may be able to provide information as to the whereabouts of a customer.

8. Evaluates account history to ensure that Courtesy Coverage requirements are maintained in accordance with bank policy.

9. Prepares maintenance request suspending Courtesy Coverage when accounts no longer meet criteria established by bank policy. Reviews maintenance request sent by other areas of the bank and approves or denies the request in accordance with bank policy.

10. Adds and removes warm blocks on ATM and debit cards in accordance with bank policy.

11. Reinstates Courtesy Coverage on accounts after ensuring all policy requirements are met.

12. Recommends New Start loans to eligible customers when the arrangement is beneficial to the customer and the bank. Takes and reviews the New Start loan application, uploads it into Appro, initiates the document preparation from Loan Processing, reviews documents, closes the loan with the customer, and processes the closed loan.

13. Determines when accounts should no longer be considered collectable under bank policy or in the judgment of the Overdraft Adjuster and submits these accounts to management for charge off approval.

14. Confers with bank officers and managers to determine the best course of action for accounts assigned to an officer code.

15. Answers incoming customer calls and if necessary directs the inquiry to the appropriate person or department.

16. Identifies unusual, suspicious or fraudulent account activity and reports the activity to supervisor.

17. Cross-trains in other areas of the Special Assets department in order to assist all officers and collectors.

18. Protects the integrity of Central Bank & Trust Co. and the overdraft program by becoming familiar with, and ensuring compliance with all Federal and state laws and regulations involved with collections, extensions of credit and overdraft programs.

19. Accurately records collection activities and notifications in the appropriate system.

20. Prepares legal requests for attorneys to initiate litigation to collect overdrawn accounts above certain dollar limits; provide information to the attorney in order to assist with the legal collection process.

21. Submits accounts for handling by the bank’s third party collection agency; provides information to third party collector to assist with the collection process.

22. Processes recovery payments on charged off overdrawn deposits accounts; writes general ledger tickets to effect such payments.

23. Performs online credits and debits to satisfy debts related to overdrawn accounts; performs the same functions to assist consumer credit adjusters in debiting overdue loan payments.

24. Performs other duties as assigned.
