Job Title: Assistant Maintenance Technician
Location: Central Baptist Church Fountain City, Knoxville TN
Reports To: Facilities Manager / Senior Maintenance Staff
Job Summary:
Assistant Maintenance personnel are responsible for supporting the upkeep and operations of our facilities, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all. This role involves conducting routine maintenance, repairs, facility improvements, and upkeep, as well as setting up and breaking down event spaces for various church and community events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facility Maintenance & Repairs:
- Assist with daily maintenance tasks, minor repairs, and preventive maintenance.
- Ensure all maintenance work complies with safety standards and church policies.
- Event Setup & Support:
- Prepare spaces for events (worship services, meetings, classes, and community gatherings) by arranging furniture and needed supplies.
- Assist with the breakdown and clean-up after events, ensuring that spaces are returned to their original condition.
- Coordinate with event organizers to understand specific requirements and facilitate smooth transitions between events.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Report any maintenance issues or potential hazards to the Facilities Manager promptly.
- Follow all health and safety regulations and participate in ongoing safety training sessions.
- General Duties:
- Provide support during special projects such as facility renovations, outdoor maintenance, and seasonal tasks.
- Assist church staff and volunteers with logistical tasks as needed.
- Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours event operations and maintenance tasks.
Qualifications:
- Experience & Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional vocational training or certifications in maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, or electrical work is a plus.
- Prior experience in facility maintenance or repair work, preferably in a similar setting preferred.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of maintenance procedures and repair techniques.
- Strong electrical and mechanical skills with the ability to perform installations and repairs.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools safely.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with church staff, volunteers, and external vendors.
- Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move moderately heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
- Capacity to stand, bend, climb ladders, and work in varying environmental conditions.
- Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, or early mornings or late evenings for events and emergencies.
Work Environment:
This role primarily involves working within the church’s facilities, including indoor spaces such as offices, sanctuaries, and community halls, as well as outdoor areas. The position may require evening or weekend work to support events and maintenance task or emergencies.
