Summary: Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of Central Bark. Central Bark is an interactive day care setting operating 365 days a year with a focus on Whole Dog Care and Enrichment through science-based behavior and training methods. The “General Manager” is expected to work weekends and holidays as needed, in all types of weather. The majority of your time will consist of managing overall operations, while supporting facility managers to increase revenue, monitor and contain operational costs, and maintain the strict quality standards for service and products provided by Central Bark
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include the Following:
· Monitor the performance of the store through verification and analysis of customer satisfaction and monthly financial reports. Develop and initiate corrective action.
· Maintain product and service quality standards by conducting ongoing evaluations and investigating complaints. Develop and initiate corrective actions
· Implement and maintain local sales and marketing programs
· Support facility managers to maintain the appropriate human resource levels to staff store operations which include hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions and establish and maintain a proactive Human Resource function to ensure employee motivation, training, scheduling, development, and compliance with established labor laws and requirements.
· Establish and maintain applicable preventative maintenance programs to protect the physical assets of the store.
· Coordinate maintenance operations for the store including refrigeration, heating/cooling, plumbing, water treatment, drainage, lighting, etc., and the overall cleanliness of the facility
· Implement and maintain effective two-way communication systems, which cross facility lines and reach all employees
· Develop new programs, which result in an increased level of customer satisfaction, revenue, and operational excellence.
· Manages in compliance with established company policies and procedures
· Manages in compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations
· Work alongside owner to develop, coordinate, and maintain an internet and social media strategy to enhance existing website and social media assets, refresh content, drive traffic, and build a client database
· Demonstrate an ability to handle multiple functions at the same time, change activities frequently, cope with multiple interruptions, organize, plan, schedule, and delegate
· Must present and maintain a positive and professional demeanor as an representative of Central Bark Doggy Day Care and accept full responsibility for managing function of the facility at all times.
· Demonstrate a full understanding of reward-based, positive reinforcement training methodologies and love and care for the well-being of dogs
· Assessing canine emergencies, administering first aid, and transportation to the vet if the need arises
Qualifications: No prior experience working with dogs is required however a love for dogs is a must! To preform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Educations and/or Experience: Management of supervisory experience is required (minimum 2 years). Dog-handling skills are preferred but not required. Dog handling skills may be in the form of pet ownership, working with animals, and attending dog training and/or behavior seminars. Training sessions and seminars may be scheduled during non-working hours where your attendance may be required. Ability to sell day care services, cross sell other services, as well as retail products. Excellent customer service skills are required.
Physical Skills: Ability to perform a variety of demanding physical activities, including lifting a minimum of 50 pounds (whether it is a bag of food, a crate, or a dog), standing or sitting for long periods of time, and enduring extreme outdoor temperatures. Grasping, pinching, and pulling skills are also needed to leash and collar dogs, as well as control them. Typing for extended periods of time is also required.
Health: It is required that all staff are current on their tetanus vaccination.
Language Skills: Ability to verbally communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and staff is a must. Must be able to read and write accurately. Ability to read dog information including names, medication, and feeding instructions, schedules and the like. Must be able to articulate the benefits of day care, sell the services and products, and act as a liaison to the customers, educating them in many diverse dog related matters.
Mathematical Skills: Basic measuring and counting abilities as related to cleaning, medications, feedings, or counting change back to customers. Ability to draw general assumptions, observations, and conclusions from financial reports. Ability to accurately count out the register and make weekly deposits into the bank account.
Computer Skills: Knowledge, understanding, and experience with Windows based applications are necessary. Preferred experience in Excel, QuickBooks, Word, and other basic Microsoft programs. Ability to research job related materials on the internet are also preferred. A broad range of technical trouble shooting abilities also needed to maintain computer systems.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, analyze emergencies and think on your feet. A strong ability to read canine behavior and relay these findings to employees and customers per Central Bark’s Glossary of Terms. Ability to rationally and effectively deal with customer concerns and complaints in a timely manner is a must. Strong analytical skills are a must in order to be able to tackle the wide range of customer, dog, administrative, employee, and building related problems that may arise.
A two week training period will be provided for the individual who is hired for this position. This training period will be split into two parts. Part one- learning the job of a Central Bark Enrichment Specialist (ie Dog Handler). This will include both online training classes as well as hands on time shadowing our Enrichment Specialists in their daily duties- setting up groups, checking in and out dogs, crating dogs, running dogs out to group, overseeing the dogs in a play group, and daily cleaning responsibilities. Part two- learning the job of a Central Bark Manager. This will include training with our POS system (gingr), scheduling staff (homebase), ordering retail, customer interactions, managing staff, & social media to name a few.
