What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinic Nurse position at Central Care Cancer Center?
Central Care Cancer Center is seeking an RN/LPN that works directly with the oncologist. This position prepares the oncologist for each patient appointment. The RN/LPN goes into the exam room with the oncologist and documents the patient’s exam and consult while assisting the oncologist during the appointment. This position occasionally assists the nursing staff with patient care and treatment.
- Prepares patient charts before each appointment and ensure the physician has all items that have been ordered entered in the chart.
- Documents all labs and diagnostics that have been performed since previous visit including but not limited to PET scans, ultrasounds, CT scans etc.
- Removes any information not related to the present appointment.
- Revises the physical exam under direction of the oncologist.
- Documents the entire encounter between the oncologist and the patient at each appointment including but not limited to, patient complaints, reason for patient visit, changes in the physical exam etc.
- Updates all information in the plan under direction of the oncologist.
- Communicates to other members of the oncology team as needed through orders and chart messages.
- Places orders needed before the next patient visit.
- Adds new diagnostic codes related to new orders.
- Makes revisions to the medication list that the physician makes during the patient visit.
- Updates new medical history, family history and surgical history that is new since previous visit.
- Updates any information to history of present illnesses.
- Communicates with all other staff regarding outside records that need to be obtained for chart completion.
- Handles chart messages and completes tasks assigned.
- Assists with physician schedule and daily flow.
- Prepares all notes and documentation for oncologist review.
- Performs RN duties as needed to assist with patient care including but not limited to, monitoring and recording vital signs such as temperatures, blood pressure, and pulse rate, giving patients medication as directed by the oncologist, administering injections and lab orders etc.
- Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse required
- Type at least 50 wpm
- Communication and interpersonal skills – must be able to communicate effectively with multiple people on a daily basis including but not limited to physicians, hospital personnel, insurance providers, patients etc.
- Demonstrate high attention to detail
- Excellent organization skills
- Ability to learn various systems and software as it relates to billing and insurance
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products including but not limited to Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Time management skills
