Position: Staff Dentist

Position Summary
Working under the supervision of the Clinical Director or Practice Manager, the Staff Dentist provides professional, high-quality dental diagnosis, treatment and education to a broad range of patients, including children, adolescents and adults.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Evaluate the current health and condition of their patient’s teeth to determine diagnosis of dental condition
- Provides a full range of general dental services within the dentist’s defined scope of training
- Follows established departmental policies, procedures and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental and/or infection control standards
- Inform their patients on how to prevent oral health problems and keep their teeth and mouth healthy
- Complete treatment on affected gums, decayed and fractured teeth, and perform tooth removal for cases where there are high levels of decay
- Consider treatment methods, explain and discuss the options with the patient to determine which works best for them based on their needs
- Keep all equipment functional and clean
- Maintain dental files for all patients
- Monitor the need for and evaluate any x-ray images as part of the patient’s treatment plan and oral health maintenance
- Refer patients to dental specialists for more advanced procedures and care
- Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications and treatment regimens as appropriate
- Maintains necessary credentialing, licensure and continuing education requirements

- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of modern dentistry and oral surgery
- Thorough knowledge of dental terminology and dental science
- Thorough understanding of the theories, methods and procedures for the prevention of dental diseases and the required corrective treatment
- Knowledge of community-based dental environment
- Ability to supervise and train employees, organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments
- Knowledge of ethical and legal standards for the delivery of dental care
- Ability to observe, assess and record symptoms, reactions and progress
- Ability to develop and implement individualized dental care plans for patients
- Maintains and expands current level of dental skill and knowledge by periodically attending continuing education programs

Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Work involves exposure to unusual elements such as unpleasant odors and/or loud noises
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling average-weight objects up to 15-20 pounds, assisting with patients and standing and/or walking for most the day
- Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training
- General medical office activities - walking, standing, sitting, talking, lifting, typing, etc.
Education/Licensure Requirements
- DDS or DMD degree from an accredited college or university
- Current licensure in the state of California
- Valid DEA license
- Current CPR/AED certification
