Summary:
Assists mechanic in completion of repairs to automotive and diesel vehicle equipment, performs assigned tasks, assists in maintaining the District’s preventive maintenance program and helps to ensure program compliance in all areas of vehicle operation. Service technician may be called on to be a substitute bus driver if needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for minor repairs of district vehicles
- Prepare work orders and maintain records as needed
- Keep work area clean and organized
- Inform Supervisor about problems within the Transportation Department
- Report misuse or suspected misuse of district property to the Supervisor
- Create and maintain an effective working relationship with district employees
- Have a positive attitude and communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, co-workers and supervisors
- Answer telephones and radios as needed
- Become knowledgeable of daily operations
- Drive a bus and transport students as needed
- Become knowledgeable in state and federal safety requirements for bus repairs and operation
- Keep current on new vehicle and bus maintenance requirements
- Maintain accurate records
- Plan, organize, and execute responsibilities to meet deadlines
- Support district and Transportation Department mission statement and goals
- Support district and school efforts to keep CCSD safe and security
- Complete and comply with all required trainings annually
- Adhere to NM Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession (NMAC 6.60.9.8)
- Other duties as assigned, reasonably related to the scope of the position
Minimum Qualifications:
- HS diploma or GED
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Dinè language, culture and history preferred
- Working knowledge of basic shop operations
- Working knowledge of shop safety and OSHA standards
- Experience in vehicle servicing
- Ability to use shop tools and equipment to successfully perform vehicle maintenance, servicing and repair on district vehicles, including school buse
Physical/Job Requirements:
Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying up to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, reaching, kneeling, driving a vehicle, traveling long distances, writing, typing, word processing, reading, researching information, and effective communication skills.
Safety and Health:
- Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions
- Pass drug test if required for position
- Pass a Commercial Driver’s License physical
- Completed and cleared background check
- Personal Protective Equipment such as steel toe boots, eyewear, ear plugs, etc.
- Knowledge and compliance with district and school safety plans
