Position: Special Projects Assistant

Pay Grade(s): 7-8 ($24.52 - 35.20 DOE)
Purpose: The Special Project Assistant will actively work on special projects as assigned by the coordinator. And assist in the application process, ordering of supplies, staff training and communication with tribal citizens for the Southeast Alaska backpack project. Incumbent will assist with daily operations and the development and execution of projects throughout Southeast Alaska.
Essential Functions. An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Interpret program guidelines, statutes, agency policies and procedures, and apply them in situations of moderate complexity with minimal supervision.
- Assist in developing program procedures and training related to the project.
- Approve, process, and maintain accurate and confidential records.
- Assist in auditing applications for accuracy and completeness.
- Assist in the coordination of backpacks and supplies shipped to SE communities.
- Assist the coordinator in developing various programs, classes, and outreach opportunities.
- Interpret the compilation of statistical and narrative reports in a timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

- Ability to maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records.
- Working knowledge of Tlingit & Haida programs, applications, and requirements.
- Familiarity with Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian cultures.
Minimum Qualifications (education, experience, skills):
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience assisting various programs
- Must be 21 years of age with a Valid Driver’s License

Physical Requirements. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation:
- The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs.
- Some travel may be required on small aircraft or ferry.
- Certain positions at Tlingit and Haida may have exposure to certain hazardous materials or conditions. The supervisor will review these if applicable.
Salary : $25 - $35
