The Y is seeking a Camp Nurse/First Aider to provide essential health care and first aid services to our campers and staff in a seasonal day camp environment. In this role, you will be responsible for responding to health-related incidents, maintaining accurate health records, and ensuring that health and safety standards are met. You will work to foster a safe, supportive, and welcoming atmosphere that reflects our Y mission and values.
As a Camp Nurse/First Aider, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of all participants, maintaining a safe camp environment, and supporting our staff in their health care responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide health and first aid services to campers and staff in accordance with Y policies and relevant health and safety regulations.
- Respond effectively to accidents and incidents, administering first aid when necessary and ensuring timely documentation.
- Maintain health records, including medical forms and health logs, ensuring compliance with state regulations and Y standards.
- Train and support staff in administering medication and first aid when necessary, and ensure proper handling of medication according to state guidelines.
- Collaborate with camp staff to deliver health-related training sessions, providing important information on safety and first aid procedures.
- Oversee the inventory and ordering of medical supplies, ensuring proper storage and safety.
- Maintain an organized and clean health service area, ensuring it is ready for use in emergencies.
- Provide written communication to staff regarding any specific health needs or precautions for individual campers.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Current certifications in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and American Red Cross First Aid.
- 1 year of experience working with youth and teens.
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Physician preferred.
- 1 year of pediatric nursing experience preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to apply knowledge of developmental stages and provide appropriate care for youth in both routine and emergency situations.
- Strong organizational skills for maintaining health records and managing medical supplies.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn, and adherence to, state health regulations for day camps.
- Ability to participate in camp activities and remain on-site for extended periods of time.
- Must complete new employee trainings and department onboarding.
