Job Overview:
House of Hope, a women’s homeless shelter, is seeking a compassionate and reliable Residential Specialist to join our team on a casual/seasonal basis, with the potential for this role to become permanent. This position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, supportive, and structured environment for our residents. Residential Specialists work directly with clients to ensure compliance with shelter rules, provide individualized support, and foster an atmosphere of respect and empowerment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety and security of all residents by monitoring adherence to shelter guidelines and addressing rule violations appropriately.
- Build positive relationships with residents through one-on-one interactions, offering guidance and support tailored to their individual needs.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of resident interactions, incidents, and rule violations using email and Microsoft Word.
- Utilize effective oral and written communication skills to collaborate with staff, residents, and external service providers as needed.
- Respond to emergencies or conflicts with professionalism and employ de-escalation techniques when necessary.
- Promote a self-sufficient and respectful community environment within the shelter.
Qualifications:
- Basic proficiency with technology, including the use of phones, email, and Microsoft Word.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a sensitive environment.
- Experience in human services, social work, or a related field is a plus but not required.
- A compassionate and nonjudgmental attitude toward individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Must pass a background check in accordance with shelter policies.
Schedule and Compensation:
This is a casual/seasonal position with the potential to become permanent based on organizational needs and staffing. The transition to permanent status, if applicable, is not guaranteed. Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, overnights, and holidays, is required.
Monday & Tuesday: 2pm-10pm
Wednesday: 6pm-10pm
Saturday & Sunday: 10pm-6am
