TITLE: Maintenance/Transportation Specialist
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations

Starts at $25.50/hr, with potential for higher pay based on experience

Position Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Operations, the Maintenance/Transportation Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safe transportation of students, staff, and others, as well as performing maintenance, repair, and renovation work in school buildings and facilities. Preferred experience in HVAC and Electrical.

Essential Functions:

Transportation Responsibilities:

  • Safely operates a school bus over designated routes in accordance with schedules, ensuring safe pick-up and drop-off of students.

  • Transports students, staff, and others for field trips and activities.

  • Conducts pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections, ensuring the vehicle is clean and in safe working order.

  • Reports mechanical deficiencies, traffic violations, or accidents promptly.

  • Cleans and refuels buses as needed.

  • Ensures compliance with all safety regulations, including student supervision, bus drills, and emergency procedures.

  • Maintains required records and reports related to bus operations.

  • Arranges for and ensures the completion of routine bus maintenance.

Maintenance Responsibilities:

  • Performs tasks to maintain school buildings and grounds, including cleaning, trash disposal, and snow/ice removal.

  • Conducts minor repairs and maintenance to ensure facilities remain in safe, operational condition.

  • Inspects equipment and facilities, recommending necessary repairs or replacements.

  • Maintains HVAC systems, regulates temperatures, and ensures efficient use of utilities.

  • Performs electrical repairs, including installing wiring, control panels, and troubleshooting issues.

  • Uses testing instruments such as ohmmeters, voltage meters, and other diagnostic tools.

  • Moves furniture, equipment, and materials as needed for maintenance work.

  • Maintains records of maintenance activities and orders necessary materials.

  • Ensures compliance with all applicable safety regulations and standards.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle operation, and bus safety procedures.

  • Proficiency in maintenance and repair work, including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical systems.

  • Ability to follow work orders and prioritize tasks efficiently.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot maintenance and transportation issues.

  • Effective communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Certification/License:

  • Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) B with Air Brakes including Passenger and School Bus Endorsements (or willingness to obtain).

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Knowledge of electrical, HVAC, or related trades.

  • Experience in building maintenance, electrical work, plumbing, and/or school bus driving preferred.
