POSITION SUMMARY:
The Infection Control Nurse provides patient-centered, specialized, evidenced-based nursing care across the continuum through a collaborative approach to treatment, research, education and advocacy. This employee will provide support and accountability to the Chief Quality Officer/Risk Manager and the Quality/Risk/Compliance Team in analyzing employee exposure data, identifying trends to develop and implement procedures for ensuring patient, staff and visitor safety. The responsibilities encompass compliance with Joint Commission standards, the HRSA Compliance Manual, CMS, OSHA and state regulations. It includes oversight of any infection control specific activities, outbreak investigation, and overall direction for Central Florida Health Care of the infection prevention and control program.
MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. Requires a current Florida RN license; with a minimum of 5 (five) years clinical experience in an ambulatory care or a hospital-based setting, or disease surveillance experience in a public health setting. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. Must be proficient and have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
RESPONSIBILTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Facilitates the operation of CFHC’s Infection Control Program through planning, establishing policy and procedure, implementing and administering departmental and organizational goals and objectives, and enhancing the organization’s mission, vision, overarching goal, and strategic plan
- Supports the CFHC providers and support staff (and other teams as appropriate) related to training, following CDC, DOH and APIC (Association for Professionals in Infection Control) guidelines as well as other regulatory minimum standards such as Joint Commission, HRSA and OSHA
- Maintains current knowledge of key accrediting and regulatory agencies indicators and standards (Joint Commission, OSHA, HRSA, APIC, etc.)
- Develops/revises plans, policies and procedures that support key infection prevention and control functions that include goals and objectives for the program
- Collaborates with the CQO/RM, the Employee Health Assistant, and the HR team to provide direction regarding employee health issues such as exposures, vaccines or vaccine preventable diseases, communicable diseases and other infection prevention/control related issues
- Completes an annual Infection Control Risk Assessment and the annual Infection Control Plan Evaluation for analysis of current CFHC plans and goals. Amends the Infection Control Plan on an annual basis as necessary
- Completes an annual review of the Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan and revises as necessary
- Monitors reports and compiles data as it relates to post procedure infections, hand hygiene, and other infection control related data elements.
- Serves as a member of the Infection Control Committee (as a part of the QUIRCS Committee) and reports dashboard data and other data elements to these meetings, as appropriate
- Works collaboratively with the Employee Health Assistant to assist with annual TB screening and evaluation as well as new employee onboarding review and follow up as appropriate
- Works collaboratively with the Employee Health Assistant for ensuring all employee TB FIT Testing (initial or re-fit, as appropriate)
- Works with the Employee Health Assistant to ensure that the annual influenza program is followed; including annual revision of the Influenza Vaccination policy for employees.
- Monitors county/state trends to determine time frame for non-immunized health care worker’s wearing their masks
- Maintains oversight of Hand Hygiene Program to include surveillance, data analysis, education of staff and reporting to all appropriate committees
- Works with the Chief Quality Officer in the development and oversight of the Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Program/Plan, Infection Control Plan, Influenza Vaccination for Employees, Hazard Communication, Hand Hygiene, and others as appropriate
- Will participate in outbreak investigation with Chief Quality Officer and other team members as well as the Florida Department of Health, if an outbreak occurs within CFHC counties
- Will provide education for onboarding employees related to the Infection Control processes and will provide ongoing education for all employees related to required and task specific or trended issues
- Will be involved in all construction/renovation and environmental rounds to ensure compliance with minimal standards
- Will contribute and collaborate with all emergency and preparedness/disaster planning as it relates to infection control
- Other duties as assigned
