Title: Neurology/Internal Medicine Physician FLSA Status: Exempt Personnel Supervised: N/A POSITION SUMMARY: Provide out-patient comprehensive care to patients with neurological diseases including initial evaluation and developing long-term treatment plans, managing medication regimens, in addition to providing consultation services to CFHC clinical staff and outside primary care providers. In the event hospitalization is required the physician will refer the patient to a local hospitalist and will monitor care upon discharge. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: Neurology Residency trained Physician
  • Board Eligible/Certified in Neurology
  • Licensure: Unrestricted Florida License
  • Certifications: DEA & BLS
  • Experience with neurological diagnostic tests
  • Insurability (malpractice)
  • Medical staff privileges at an appropriate hospital if designated by CFHC
  • Athenahealth EMR experience a plus
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in digital documentation
RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Be familiar with CFHC’s program philosophies, goals, and objectives. Be cognizant of and comply with all CFHC’s policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations. 2. Adhere to disease management protocols, and key clinical pathways, and use them to improve clinical performance. Participate in Collaboratives and health care programs of federal and state governments approved by the Senior Management. Work with QI/RM to ensure compliance with clinical measures. 3. Complete all required paperwork on time. (Payroll sheets, encounter tickets, hospital encounter sheets, evaluations, progress notes, etc.) 4. Understand the requirements of CFHC’s Exposure Control Plan. Assure compliance with this plan by support staff assigned to assist you. Personally, utilize universal precautions when practicing in the clinical setting. 5. Facilitate needed referrals, including social services for patients requiring services not offered at CFHC in coordination with referral clerks and nurses according to CFHC policy. 6. Participate in staff outreach and off-site health care programs requiring Internal Medicine services as requested by the CMO or CEO. Represent CFHC in the community. 7. Precept Medical Students as assigned by CMO. 8. Advise and assist APRNs as needed per approved protocols and procedures. 9. Diagnose and prescribe medications to treat neurological diseases and disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles such as central nervous system infection, craniospinal trauma, movement disorders, dementia, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, headaches, and stroke. 10. Conduct comprehensive neurological examinations and physical assessments including detailed patient history taking, cognitive tests, diagnostic tests like brain imaging (MRI, CT), electroencephalography (EEG), electromyography (EMG), nerve conduction studies, and lumbar punctures to diagnose/identify potential neurological disorders. 11. Perform or interpret the outcomes of procedures or diagnostic tests, such as lumbar punctures, electroencephalography, electromyography, and nerve conduction velocity tests. 12. Provide consultations on difficult cases and collaborate with other medical professionals to ensure holistic care. 13. Educate patients and their families on neurological conditions and management strategies. Monitor patients’ progress and adjust treatments or medication as needed. 14. Complete all duties, responsibilities, and competencies in a manner that is appropriate to the age groups to whom care/services are provided. 15. Assist in the review of neurology protocols and patient education materials in collaboration with the CMO and DON. 16. Provide necessary information and signatures for participation in reimbursement arrangements, such as Medicare, Medicaid, and other plans. 17. Review incoming reports (lab, x-ray, EKG, etc.), sign-off, and follow up when indicated. 18. Maintain up to date knowledge of coding and billing requirements. Provide accurate coding information on encounter tickets that correspond to care given and documented in progress notes. 19. Rotate to other CFHC centers as needed to provide coverage. 20. Provide off-hours and Saturday clinic coverage as assigned by the CMO. 21. Report as needed to the CMO any pertinent information or situations that impact on patient care or CFHC liability. 22. Provide a leadership role for medical support staff. Provide support and encouragement to the Nurse Supervisor and Patient Service Coordinator. 23. Attend and participate in mandatory CFHC meetings (center-specific quarterly meetings, Corporate meetings, and other meetings as designated by the CMO or CEO). 24. Participate in Peer Review activities as requested by CMO. 25. Assist with the recruitment of other physicians and clinical staff in collaboration with HR and CMO. 26. Make recommendations to the CMO regarding the purchase of clinical supplies, instruments, and equipment, and repair and/or maintenance of these. 27. Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively with other members of the clinical team. Be supportive of coworkers. 28. Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times. 29. Perform all surgical procedures using sterile techniques and CDC guidelines. 30. Carry out any other activities deemed appropriate by the CMO or CEO.
