Key Responsibilities
- Ownership for all Human Resource activities including staffing, employee relations, performance management, workers’ compensation administration, compensation management, workforce planning, succession planning, positive work environment, and training and development.
- Manage employee relations, resolve conflicts, and foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork and productivity.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, and development programs to ensure we have a skilled and engaged workforce.
- Create a culture of respect by building strong relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Lead the integration of all HR activities to align to Central Garden & Pet practices.
- Oversee the administration of employee benefits, payroll, and performance management systems, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Manage HR metrics and reporting, such as turnover rates, absenteeism, and training effectiveness and use this data to identify trends and make informed decisions to improve HR processes and outcomes.
- Partner with senior leadership in helping people leaders increase their skills in coaching and developing their employees; serve as the main resource to guide people leaders in the fair and equitable treatment of employees.
- Provide leadership in resolving employee relations incidents; conduct fair and thorough complaint investigations; promote open communications and a positive work environment; ensure that policies and processes are fairly and uniformly applied.
- Create and deliver training modules to enhance the skill level of the workforce and ensure compliance.
- Ensure legal compliance with various governmental laws and regulations covering Affirmative Action/EEO, OSHA, DOT, wage & hour, staffing, workers’ compensation, and harassment prevention.
- Manage workers’ compensation claims and issues; mitigate safety risks affecting employees; maintain OSHA log and claims files.
- Represent the company in unemployment matters, including responding to correspondence and attending hearings as needed.
- Partner with managers to ensure positions are staffed and the talent pipeline is primed.
- Other projects or duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related business field along with at least 7 years of progressive, professional-level HR generalist experience; at least 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment is strongly preferred.
- Strong background in HR management, excellent interpersonal skills, and a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities within a manufacturing or distribution environment.
- Continuous learner focused on staying current in knowledge of human resources and state and Federal employment laws.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
- PHR, SPHR or SHRM-CP certification desired.
- Superior employee relations skills; demonstrated success in resolving complex personnel issues; and the ability to conduct a thorough employee relations investigation.
- Capable of communicating verbally and in writing, with diverse audiences, in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and HRIS systems.
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Onsite in Norton, MA full time with travel to Lockbourne, OH. Ability to work 1-2 days remote once trained and comfortable in the role.
