GENERAL PURPOSE

Responsible for providing support to the instructional program specific responsibility for facilitating learning within an high school classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines.  Also supervises students; collaborates with other teachers, professional staff and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responds to a wide range of inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Administers mandated test programs and/or subjects specific assignments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Analyzes test data to enhance student achievement.
  • Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations and/or goals providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
  • Counsels students to improve performance, health status, problem solving techniques, and a variety of personal issues.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements. 
  • Directs student teachers, paraprofessionals, volunteers and/or student workers providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Facilitates student learning achieving success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through defined lesson plans. Instructs students to improve their success in academics and/or skills through a defined course of study.
  • Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic files and records providing up to date information and/or historical reference in accordance with established guidelines and legal requirements.
  • Manages student behavior providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Monitors students in a variety of educational environments providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Prepares a variety of written materials documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
  • Reports health and safety issues to administrative personnel and/or appropriate agencies maintaining students’ personal safety, a positive learning environment and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
  • Responds to emergencies resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, required.
  • Experience working with at-risk student population preferred.

 

Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements

  • Missouri 9-12 Teaching Certification, required.
  • Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance, the results of which must be satisfactory to the District, required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others.
  • Ability to analyze situations to define issues, draw conclusions, and create action plans.
  • Knowledge required to schedule meetings, trainings, and supporting sessions with clear objectives and relevant, measurable outcomes.
  • Knowledge required to facilitate group sessions with adult audiences and instruction; incorporate appropriate technology; and communicate high standards and expectations.
  • Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
  • Skill based competencies required to perform the functions of the job include maintaining organized records, preparing and maintaining accurate records, analyzing assessment instruments, and operating standard office equipment using pertinent software applications.
  • Ability to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment.
  • Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking/problem solving to improve work processes.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; set priorities; meet deadlines and schedules; work with detailed information; and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work as part of a team; adapt to changing priorities; and apply logical processes and analytical skills.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.
  • The work is light work that requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
  • Must possess the physical ability to perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
  • Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.

 

Salary : $44,972 - $81,929
