General Summary:
The Administrative Assistant to the Senior High Assistant Principal works under the supervision of the Assistant Principal.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Intensive personal and telephone interaction with students and their parents.
- Greets and assists visitors, staff, and students; answers phones and makes appointments.
- Performs duties involving effective communications within the building and community.
- Types letters, reports, etc. from a rough or clear draft.
- Files records and reports, posts information to records, sorts and distributes mail and performs other related secretarial duties associated with maintenance of filing system and the completion of forms, cards, etc.
- Answers telephones and performs other duties involving contacts with employees, students, and parents..
- Operates other standard office equipment such as copy machines, calculating equipment, computer systems and paging systems.
- Maintains student attendance and discipline records.
- Maintains Assistant Principal’s appointment calendar.
- Assigns student lockers as available.
- Supports and assists teachers and guest teachers with day to day activities.
- Is involved in and works on various student programs.
- Works with Truancy Department regarding truant neighborhood students.
- Assists with lockdown and other emergency situations.
- Assists with pupil accounting counts.
- Maintains acceptable and reliable attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- College degree and/or previous relevant work experience required.
- Advanced knowledge of computers and technology.
- Excellent organizational skills with emphasis on details and time management.
- Excellent public relations skills.
- Ability to deal with injuries.
- Knowledge of math and accounting principles.
- Analytical ability necessary to gather and interpret data.
- Demonstrates proficiency in spelling, grammar, and information technologies.
- Dependable, reliable, and protective of sensitive/confidential information.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred:
- CPR and first aid preferred.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis.
- Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
- Duties include frequent walking and physical activity, as well as use of hands and arms for signaling and light lifting/carrying. Must have the ability to move about the classroom/building and school property, including bending, pushing/pulling, lifting, twisting, climbing, stooping, or crouching to complete work-related tasks with and without students.
- The ability to listen and effectively orally communicate information and ideas to a diverse population.
- Ability to effectively discern information and formulate appropriate action(s).
- Ability to critically think and provide appropriate solutions.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently.
Environmental Conditions:
Incumbents work in indoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. Duties may be completed in cold and hot temperatures, including work on slippery and/or uneven surfaces. Work environment includes working around students, school equipment, and office equipment.
Work Schedules:
Must be available to report during the school year consistent with the district’s school year calendar.
