About Us: At Central CUSD#4 we are committed to fostering a learning environment that nurtures curiosity, creativity, and academic growth. We are seeking a dedicated and organized individual to join our library team as a School Library Aide to help maintain and enhance our library services. We are a dual use library, assisting public patrons as well as the school.
Job Overview: The School Library Aide will work closely with the Library Director and Assistant Librarian to support day-to-day library operations, assist students and staff, and ensure the library is an engaging and efficient learning space. This role involves helping staff and students find books, managing circulation, and maintaining the library's organization. This library is a dual use library serving the school and public patrons.
Key Responsibilities:
· Assist students, staff, and patrons in locating books and other library resources.
· Answer questions about library resources, including books, e-books, and research tools
· Assist in the use of library catalogs, online databases, and educational software
· Check out and in library materials, ensuring proper records are maintained.
· Shelve books and other materials according to the Dewey Decimal Classification and other appropriate systems
· Conduct periodic inventory of materials, ensuring all items are in good condition.
· Assist in preparing new materials for circulation, including labeling, repairs and processing items.
· Help maintain an orderly and clean library environment.
· Maintain accurate patron records in the library management software (overdue items, renewals and lost items)
· Assist in special circulation procedures such as reserving a list or classroom set of resources.
· Assist class visits and students on passes to select books based on their interests and reading levels.
· Provide basic assistance with technology such as computers, printers and other devices in the library.
· Assist with general office tasks such as filing, photocopying, and record-keeping.
· Assist the Director in selecting items to purchase and weed from the collection.
Qualifications:
· Paraprofessional License or equivalent (Associate’s degree or some college coursework preferred).
· Prior experience in a library, school, or customer service setting is a plus.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, staff, and parents.
· Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently.
· Basic knowledge of library systems, technology, and research methods are helpful.
· Computer Skills: knowledge of Microsoft systems & Google Suite preferred
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to lift and move books, materials, and supplies (up to 25 lbs.).
· Comfortable standing, bending and moving around the library space for extended periods.
