What is a Substation Technician Supervisor?
The Substation Technician Supervisor will be responsible for planning, scheduling, coordinating, and supervising the work of employees engaged in the construction, operation, and maintenance of electric substations, maintenance of electrical equipment in hydro generating stations and the repair and test of various equipment.
What does a Substation Technician Supervisor do?
The Substation Technician Supervisor is considered a representative of the Company and is required to interface in a professional manner with many positions and departments within and outside the Company. This includes project construction planning, scheduling, and progress reporting, and resolving conflicts. The Supervisor must have a good understanding of the Labor Agreement, support Company Policies and Procedures, travel out of the service territory on company business, and learn/adopt new skills and procedures as technology changes. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Motivates, guides, and supports the Relay Technicians to accomplish their duties in the safest and most efficient method possible
- Provides support at all hours (day or night) for emergencies arising within the system
- Conducts safety/crew meetings
- Learns/adopts new skills and procedures as technology changes
- Reviews/modifies project construction estimates
- Assembles, schedules, and evaluates work crews to safely and effectively complete maintenance and capital construction projects within the approved project estimate funding and schedule for each activity
- Plans, schedules, arranges for and supervises cutouts and switching orders as required
- Supports storm/emergency restoration efforts
What does it take to be a Substation Technician Supervisor?
Required:
- Associate’s degree in Business Administration, STEM, or a related field and 3 years of operational or technical supervisory experience in a related field. In lieu of an Associate’s degree, a High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years of operational or technical supervisory experience in a related field
- Supervisory experience and/or experience directing operation personnel
- Technical knowledge of safety rules/regulations for servicing high voltage equipment, as well as knowledge of electrical systems and utility operations
- Ability to manage a wide variety and number of projects and deadlines
- Well-developed written/verbal communication skills
- Must be willing to work outside of the regularly scheduled hours on occasion and will be on an a, "on call" rotation during all hours outside of the normal workweek
- Valid driver’s license
