The Surgical Clinical Supervisor supervises a group of clinical staff in the surgery center focused on providing outstanding patient care. This individual is responsible for managing and evaluating staff; developing and implementing ideas and solutions toward the goal of superior care; serving as a main point of contact for staff, physicians, and the public regarding surgery center operations; and providing administrative support to the Surgical Clinical Manager and Director of Surgery.

Responsibilities:
- Coordinate functions of patient care areas to ensure smooth and timely patient flow, including developing and implementing staffing plans to ensue all required responsibilities are performed at a superior level.
- Routinely monitor procedures and patients being scheduled to ensure adequate equipment, supplies and staffing are available for planned cases.
- Evaluate issues and determine and implement solutions in a logical, reasonable, and timely manner.
- Assume administrative responsibility in the absence of the Surgical Clinical Manager and/or Director of Surgery.
- Supervise assigned employees, including interviewing candidates and making hiring recommendations; educating and providing on-the-job training to personnel; ensuring adequate and routine in-service and continuing education and development; providing performance feedback/reviews for staff on a regular basis; formally evaluate employees annually providing feedback and holding employees accountable to performance goals; and performing coaching, counseling, education, and progressive discipline with employees as needed.
- Provide backup surgical nursing support, relieve nursing personnel as needed, and function effectively in emergency situations.
- Supervise and work closely with Infection Control Nurse to ensure the center is compliant with infection control and environmental safety practices as needed.
- Evaluate equipment and supplies, ensuring adequate stocking levels for center operation; oversee and manage plans for safe storage and distribution of equipment and supplies; and work with sales representatives to ensure proper equipment is available for center when needed.
- Communicate with employee, Director of Surgery, Surgical Clinical Manger, and physicians in a timely manner and maintain effective public relations with physicians, patients, patient families, and employees.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in the nursing field by attending classes and seminars as well as reading professional publications on an ongoing basis.
- Places a high priority on and maintains strict confidentiality in all situations.
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains applicable professional affiliations and certifications as required.
- Attends and participates in required organizational meetings and committees as requested.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and Certification/License Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and must hold a current Registered Nurse license to practice in the State of Indiana. Minimum of five years’ experience as a Registered Nurse required. Experience as a surgical, perioperative, or critical care nurse preferred. Must maintain CPR and ACLS certifications.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
Working environment is in a surgical environment. Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, bodily fluids, and other conditions common to a surgical environment. Work requires standing and walking or other means of mobility for extended periods of time. Position requires full range of body motion including reaching, handling and lifting/assisting patients, handling of instruments and equipment, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing must be in normal range for telephone contacts and to interact directly with patients. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Regularly interacts with the staff, physicians, and the public.
Experience
Required- Minimum of five years’ experience as a Registered Nurse required.
- Experience as a surgical, perioperative, or critical care nurse preferred.
Education
Required- Bachelors or better in Nursing
