Central Iowa Shelter and Services is offering a paid student internship during summer and potentially continuing on a part-time basis through the academic year. The internship program will provide the student with relevant skills in a variety of accounting and human resources functions via on-the-job training.

Accounting - Accounts Payable

Time Commitment
- Hours of operation are 7:00am and 6:00pm Monday thru Friday.
- Must be available to work at least 20 hours per week during the summer (May – August)
- M ust be available to wo rk u p to 20 hours per week during academic year.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
Accounting - Accounts Payable
- Process vendor invoices
- Handle vendor communications, resolve any billing disputes.
- Audit incoming invoices and other payment requests for appropriate coding and authorizations, routing as appropriate.
- Review credit card expense reports and petty cash replenishments requests for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain vendor files, including contracts for services and paid items.
- Other task as assigned.
- Assist with the creation of grant budgets.
- Other task as assigned.
- Monthly reconciliation of balance sheets
- Other miscellaneous reports as needed.
- As needed, act as backup for processing bi-weekly payroll using ADP’s Workforce Now solution.
- Review timesheets
- Assist in reconciliation of all benefit deduction statements with payroll reports
- Assist in Reconciliation of monthly benefits bills with HR and payroll
- Assist with ensuring accuracy of various accruals.
- Prepare offer and new hire documents
- Maintain I-9 files
- Respond to employment verifications
- Respond to EDD earnings verification/ audit requests
- Data collection, preparation of employee census information for compliance reports
- Assist in benefits administration, including processing
- Must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited local University, with a major in Accounting or Human Resources. Sophomore, Junior or Senior level, with current GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Srong technical and organizational skills in addition to excellent written and verbal communication skills, in a professional environment.
- A high level of integrity, accuracy, dependability, enthusiasm, and confidentiality.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
- Position will require a minimum of 20 hours and a maximum of 40 hours per week (on occasion).
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without Visa sponsorship.
