What are the responsibilities and job description for the Records Technician / Sterilization Technician position at Central Jersey Orthodontics?
Have fun while working with awesome teammates! We are looking for a fun, energetic, and exuberantly friendly ENTRY-LEVEL STERILIZATION / RECORDS TECHNICIAN for our orthodontic office in Holmdel, NJ. Staff in this role usually continue their training to ultimately become orthodontic assistants or treatment coordinators (or if their preference is for more administrative roles, we can also train you to become a scheduling coordinator or financial coordinator assistant).
Main responsibilities include:
- Welcoming new patients and helping them feel comfortable
- Helping take patient records (photos of faces/teeth, x-rays, digital scans of teeth).
- Uploading patient photos to their digital charts
- Emailing patient records to other offices
- Running dental cassettes through sterilization machines
- Cleaning rooms/chairs in between patients
Required qualifications:
A positive attitude, cheerful/friendly personality, a good work ethic, and an ability to multitask while maintaining a high attention to detail are our TOP priorities! Experience is a plus, but we are willing to train someone who is looking to get their foot in the door for a long-term and highly-rewarding career in dentistry. Previous people in this role have gone on to enroll in dental school and hygiene school.
Starting Pay Rate and Career Advancement Opportunities:
Starting pay range ($15/hr) is for someone with no work experience who is looking for on-the-job training. Hourly pay increases with demonstrated ability and additional learned skills. Previous employees in this role and have transitioned within the office to become orthodontic assistants, treatment coordinators, etc. Previous employees in this role have also matriculated in dental school (to become dentists) and hygiene school (to become hygienists).

WORK SCHEDULE:

Office Hours: (We see patients 3 clinical days per week, and the clinical schedule alternates weekly between either M-T-W or T-W-Th)
Clinical Schedule 1: M-T-W (every other week):
- Mon: 11:30 AM - 8:00 PM
- Tue: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM
- Wed: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM (over the summer from JUL - AUG, it is 8 AM - 4 PM)
- Thu: OFF (admin day)
- Fri: OFF (admin day)
Clinical Schedule 2: T-W-Th (every other week):
- Mon: OFF (admin day)
- Tue: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM (over the summer from JUL - AUG, it is 11:30 AM - 8 PM)
- Wed: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM
- Thu: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM (over the summer from JUL - AUG, it is 8 AM - 4 PM)
- Fri: OFF (admin day)
Additional Hours (if wanted by clinical staff):
- If clinical staff want additional hours, clinical staff can also work on administrative days to help the doctor see emergency patients, take records (photographs, x-rays, digital scans), sterilize equipment, organize lab cases, restock chairs/drawers, verify insurance benefits, and other administrative tasks.

Hourly rate is commensurate with applied skills. As you are trained, demonstrate proficiency in all required tasks, and take on additional responsibilities, your hourly rate will increase. There are also monthly bonuses based on goals.
