Groundskeeper
Position Description:
As a Groundskeeper in our Grounds, Maintenance, and Custodial Department, you will serve students and staff in a public education setting. Your charge is to provide outstanding and consistent grounds-keeping services for our customers. You will demonstrate quality customer service by maintaining, servicing, and repairing District grounds and athletic fields under the direction of the grounds and maintenance supervisor team. Also, you will help maintain, shape, and enhance a culture of safety, positivity, partnership and inclusion. As such, you will team with other maintenance technicians and trades as directed by the grounds, maintenance, and custodial administrators.
Key Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multicultural and diverse socio-economic setting
- Valid Washington State driver's license
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Attain and maintain a Washington State Pesticide License within 180 days upon hire
- Obtain CPR and First Aid Certification as required by the district
- Experience with computers and related hardware
- Demonstrate understanding of the following:
o Materials, methods, techniques, tools, and equipment commonly used in maintaining grounds, landscapes, irrigation systems and athletic fields
o Tools, equipment and machinery commonly used in the construction/renovations of grounds, landscape, irrigation systems and athletic fields
o Troubleshoot equipment problems and make minor repairs
o All applicable Federal and State regulations and laws pertaining to insecticides, herbicides, fertilizers and safe procedures used when storing, mixing, applying and disposing of product and containers
Key Responsibilities:

· Participate as a member of the crew with the following:
o Prepare school grounds for planting; plant shrubs, trees and lawns; cut weeds.
o Seed, water, mow and fertilize lawns and playfields; spray pesticides; fertilize and prune shrubs, hedges and trees.
o Maintain sports fields and outdoor recreational areas including: painting, edging, mound building, mowing, artificial turf maintenance, track surface, lining and assist in setting up areas for sports events.
o Rake leaves, sweep debris; remove litter from school grounds; remove snow and ice from sidewalks, driveways and access roads.
o Remove trees and limbs around school grounds.
o Maintain and clean District storm drains.
- Uphold and assist in enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Requires the use of multiple communication and technology systems, which may include electronic mail, computers, document cameras, smart boards and web-based resources.
- Demonstrate the ability and willingness to work in the following conditions:
- at heights, on ladders, scaffolds, and aerial lifts, or in narrow spaces
- where protective clothing or other devices (including respirator) may be required
- where there may be exposure to hazardous chemicals and high noise levels
- in situations that require lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds multiple times during work shift
- read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings and specifications
- working outdoors in inclement weather
