Job Description
This position exists to assist with the crop management for the Ag and Energy Center at Central Lakes College to enhance crop research and development. Assist with the entire growing process from planting to harvesting the crops on 1480 acres of land managed by CLC in conjunction with several outside agencies, entities and individuals. This position will also assist with the recordkeeping of the growing and harvesting process and with the transportation of crops to market.
Salary Range:
$20.21-23.26 hourly
Minimum Qualifications
- A minimum of two years of experience working with agronomy techniques and practices (planting schedules, germination intervals, and transplantation procedures) sufficient to plant seeds and maintain crops and/or treat plant diseases and pests.
- A minimum of two years of experience of operating farm machinery and equipment.
- Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in farming sufficient to use effectively and operate safely and to make minor repairs.
- Knowledge of basic chemical fertilizer or pesticide application and related safety practices.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow oral and written instructions sufficient to independently complete assignments timely using accepted practices and safe techniques.
- Possession of an active, valid, and applicable Class D driver’s license.
Preferred Qualification
- Knowledge of and experience with using precision agriculture equipment.
- Standard computer software skills sufficient to create, format, edit, print, and save a variety of documents in a professional and efficient manner.
- Awareness of safety concerns in an agricultural environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on projects and tasks.
- Ability to oversee, lead, train, and evaluate the work activities of student employees to ensure that standards, deadlines, and procedures are met.
- Possession of an active, valid, and applicable Class A driver’s license
- Possession of an active, valid, and applicable herbicide/pesticide applicators license.
Other Requirements
- Ability to move and/or transport items weighing up to 80 pounds.
- Ability to work outside in extreme heat or below freezing weather.
Work Shift (Hours / Days of work)
8 hours/day, Monday-Friday
Hours may vary based on crop needs, with overtime as needed.
