Central Lincoln is accepting applications for a summer Engineering Intern. The current position is open to multiple engineering disciplines. The specific tasks assigned will vary depending upon the skills, experience, and abilities of the successful candidate. Examples of preferred skills and potential duties are listed below for a range of disciplines.
The Engineering Intern position supports the Engineering Department and will be involved in a variety of tasks. Engineering is based out of the headquarters (HQ) building in Newport, but field work is a significant component of our work, and interns spend time all over the District. Work involves tasks associated with running an Electric Utility. These tasks may include data collection and input, engineering analysis, or supporting engineering designs. In the Civil Engineering discipline, tasks may involve transmission and substation design and construction, or other various project management duties. In the Electrical Engineering discipline, tasks may involve power system automation and protection, documenting equipment information, or many other facets of Electrical Engineering. The internship will provide opportunities to see many different aspects of the Utility.
Work involves tasks associated with running an Electric Utility. Engineering Interns are involved in a variety of tasks to support the Engineering Department. Tasks may include data collection and input, engineering analysis, and engineering design. Tasks supporting Civil Engineering may involve transmission and substation design and construction, or project management. Tasks supporting Electrical Engineering may involve power system automation and protection and many other facets of Electrical Engineering.- Work on various assigned duties under the direct supervision of an Engineer
- Work in both office and field environments
- Engineering theory obtained through primary education at a university, college, or vocational school
- AutoCad is preferred
- Civil Engineering Skills:
- Arcinfo/GIS is preferred
- Electrical Engineering Skills
- PowerWorld Simulator is preferred
- SEL AcSELerator Quickset/RTAC is preferred
- Aspen Oneliner is preferred
- Microsoft Office Suite preferred
- General Duties(may include but not limited to):
- Helping to implement new software
- Aiding in data entry
- Organizing, scanning files, consolidating space in preparation for office move
- Contract preparation and procurement
- Accompanying a Line Crew
- Engineering calculations and office tasks
- Participating in tasks across multiple engineering disciplines (Electrical, Telecommunications, Civil)
- Working in Cascade database (asset management tool)
- Field photographic documentation (i.e. detailed substation photos)
- Working with substation shop, meter/relay shop, and possibly communications shop
- Civil Engineering Duties:
- Surveying
- Inspection of small civil projects
- Detailing and drafting using AutoCad
- Electrical Engineering Duties:
- Creating or modifying transmission onelines, substation onelines, and AC/DC schematics in ACAD
- Working with a SCADA HMI
- Working with SEL acSELerator QuickSet
- Working with SEL acSELerator RTAC.
- Transmission system analysis using PowerWorld Simulator
- Telecommunications Engineering Duties:
- Help install fiber tags on aerial spans
- Requires Junior or greater status in an Engineering related Curriculum
- Accepted into Pro School
