What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Residential Supervisor (Mental Health Worker III) - Walpole position at Central Massachusetts Area?
The Department of Mental Health Community Transition Program is seeking a conscientious individual to fill the role of Assistant Residential Supervisor (Mental Health Worker III) within a residential program in Walpole, MA to provide direct care & counseling services to clients to prepare for more independent living.
Please Note: This is a 40-hour position, 9:00am – 5:30pm Week 1: Monday & Saturday and Week 2: Sunday & Monday
Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all-inclusive):
- Assist Residential Superviser by supervising, assigning, evaluating, communicating and meeting with staff to clarify policies & procedures, check progress notes and shift activities in order to ensure staff are performing job duties according to program guidelines.
- Provide counseling to clients by identifying & addressing need areas & assisting with treatment goals and objectives to aid clients in achieving rehabilitative success.
- Draft treatment plans by assessing client strengths & needs, following established policies & procedures to promote independent living skills through development & implementation of behavioral & treatment plans.
- Supervise implementation of medication policies & procedures by reviewing, updating and communicating procedures to staff in order to maintain consistent & accurate med administration.
- Assist in crisis intervention by identifying & evaluating situations, providing necessary intervention skills to clients, notifying appropriate personnel & preparing documentation adhering to policies & procedures to ensure human rights & safety standards are met.
- Act as liaison to DMH, community providers & family members by scheduling & attending meetings, maintaining open/on-going communication & providing documentation related to client issues in order to coordinate & enhance service delivery.
- Provide orientation & training to staff by identifying, scheduling & conducting regular & as necessary training programs to ensure staff are capable of providing the appropriate services to clients per established policies & procedures.
- Oversee file maintenance by reviewing files, checking progress notes for accuracy & addressing issues to ensure DMH regulations regarding files & documents are met.
- Ensure that residence is furnished with food, household/office supplies, furnishings & equipment by determining the need, monitoring supplies/equipment on hand and ordering and/or purchasing when necessary to keep adequate supplies/equipment on hand.
- Coordinate evening activities for clients by planning, structuring & designing activities in accordance with treatment plan mandates to enhance client community living skills development.
- Collect program fees from clients; manage house monies, bank accounts, pay bills & maintain/ monitor client funds to ensure effective financial management of the program & representative payee accounts.
- Responsible for scheduling fire drills, testing & maintaining equipment & supplies, training staff & clients in emergency procedures, providing documentation in compliance with program & department standards in order to ensure safety of clients and staff.
- Act as professional role model by interacting with clients & staff in a respectful, positive, clear and consistent manner to ensure a therapeutic milieu & to assist clients & staff in developing & maintaining social interaction skills.
- Responsible for upkeep of program vehicles by monitoring & overseeing the purchase of fuel and supplies and coordinating repairs in order to maintain vehicle safety for clients & staff.
- Responsibilities may include performing the duties/functions of a Mental Health Worker I or II, as necessary, to ensure continuity of client care and program safety.
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Capacity to perform basic mathematics.
- Proven ability to gather information through observing and questioning individuals.
- Talent for communicating effectively in oral expression, writing clearly and concisely, and developing ideas in logical sequence.
- Skilled in interacting with people who are under emotional stress with the ability to maintain a calm manner in stressful or emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with individuals with serious, persistent mental illness, substance abuse and/or who have experienced homelessness.
- Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.
Please note: In accordance with an agreement between the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Mental Health and AFSCME/Council 93, employees assigned to a work unit where the Medication Administration Program (MAP) is used are required to pass MAP certification within six (6) months of entering the position or three (3) examination opportunities, whichever comes first. Employees are required to maintain MAP certification as long as you are working in said program.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in providing direct care service to the mentally ill, emotionally or physically handicapped, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A Bachelor's degree or higher with a major in psychology, human services, mental health or retardation may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.*
- Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
