What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher K-12 PE / Adaptive PE position at Central Massachusetts Collaborative?
ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:
The Physical Education Teacher is an energetic and flexible employee eager to work in our therapeutic day school with a high-needs population. This position is responsible for providing a rigorous and individualized instructional experience through creativity, resourcefulness, and sound judgment that is consistent with the rules and regulations of the Central Massachusetts Collaborative.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plan, develop, and implement various physical education experiences through creativity and resourcefulness, which lends to the educational growth and development of the targeted student population.
2. Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, and fundamentals of body movement
3. Plan a balanced physical education program and organize daily class time so that preparation, warm-ups and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
4. Utilize a variety of motor activities that are appropriate for students' ages and skill levels.
5. Align instruction to National Physical Education Standards and the Massachusetts Health Frameworks.
6. Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
7. Create a structured, therapeutic, safe environment for all students that assists students with developing good sportsmanship and self-regulation skills.
8. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.
9. Provide appropriate safety instruction and make safety checks on all physical education equipment and instructional areas to ensure the overall safety of students
10. Address and handle students with behavioral issues that may occur during PE class.
11. Evaluate each student’s growth and contribution to the group's performance so everyone can contribute.
12. Communicate clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students.
13. Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned physical education equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
14. Works collaboratively with program directors and staff to provide physical education programs for school assemblies, open houses, parent meetings, and seasonal programs.
15. Maintain data and all required documentation.
16. Supervises para-professionals who attend PE classes with students.
17. Complete nonviolent crisis intervention training upon hire and maintain nonviolent crisis intervention certification.
18. Demonstrate sound judgments and decisions aligned with school regulations and philosophy, promote a positive school climate that fosters high student expectations, and employ appropriate strategies that address multiple learning styles for all students.
19. Demonstrate good communication skills and the ability to deal with people professionally.
20. Able to reach, grasp, and handle objects using upper extremities and lift and carry objects and/or classroom equipment up to 45 pounds.
21. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the director.
Salary : $53,000 - $94,700
