What are the responsibilities and job description for the FM REPORTER / PRODUCER position at Central Michigan University?
The FM Reporter/Producer writes and produces daily content for radio broadcast and digital platforms. Duties will include spot packages, two-way interviews, enterprise and feature reports. This position will report on the environment with an emphasis on rural Michigan.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting, Journalism, or a related field or a combination of education and experience that equates to four years.
Two years of professional experience in reporting situations, field news gathering, and/or remote recording situations.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and project a positive image.
Demonstrated professional proficiency in digital editing and studio
situations.
Demonstrated professional proficiency in announcing.
Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships with faculty,
students, visitors, and fellow work associates.
Ability to complete tasks independently.
Ability to perform the essential functions and requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
Four years of successful experience in on-air and field recording/news gathering, with increasing responsibilities.
Proficient capabilities in digital multi-track editing.
Demonstrated ability to develop program segments and to develop new program concepts.
Demonstrated ability to formulate interview segments and questions.
Experience filing stories with NPR news magazines.

Develops contacts with Central Michigan University departments, local and state government officials and various constituencies.
Appears at station events.
Participates in professional development opportunities.
Participates in recruiting, interviewing and training Student Reporters and Freelance News Reporters.
Regularly pitches stories to NPR for national distribution.
Develops and completes major projects.
