Position Summary
The Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships for the enterprise must maintain a positive, proactive attitude, be current with best practices in the field, and possess excellent knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid rules and regulations. Manages and administers financial aid programs for students, including staff and resource management, reports and program reviews, compliance with college and funding agency requirements, and student financial aid applications and counseling. Manages and administers scholarship programs for students. Detail and procedure-oriented, well organized, and motivated with excellent customer service and communication skills. Utilizes the freedom to act with a high-level of integrity and with critical mission goals and objectives in mind. Must understand the vision for Student Services as it relates to the College's core values and strategic direction.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, hiring, training, promotion, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Manages and administers scholarship programs for students, including the development, awarding, and compliance oversight of institutional and external scholarship opportunities.
  • May oversee all facets of the daily operations of the organizational unit, ensuring compliance with the College, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Provides training, development, coaching, and mentoring opportunities to staff.
  • Conducts continual review and updates of policies and procedures in accordance with professional standards and best practices.
  • Responsible for assuring critical financial aid processes are set up each term.
  • Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, short-and long-range planning; develops and implements projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals.
  • Represents the organization at various community and/or business meetings, committees, and task forces; promotes existing and new programs and/or policies.
  • Participates in the development of annual operating budgets and provides fiscal direction to the unit.
  • Coordinates financial aid disbursement with the Bursar and Accounts Receivable offices.
  • May administer accounting, reporting, and funding levels for specific programs; may coordinate audits and program reviews.
  • May coordinate public information and outreach programs and develop sources of financial aid at the state and national levels.
  • Partners with department managers to forecast employment needs.
  • Assists Senior Director Financial Aid with development of annual and multi-year departmental plans, sets priorities in consultation with other department managers.
  • Authority to act on behalf of the Senior Director when unavailable.
  • Assists other managers with questions/concerns.
  • Addresses issues with all levels of personnel at the college.
  • Participates in ongoing activities of committees and sub-committees created from the College strategic initiatives and other key projects as a representative of the Financial Aid office.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Four (4) years of supervisory experience
  • Four (4) years of direct financial aid experience managing and disbursing financial aid programs (federal, state, institutional)
