We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Medical Biller to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing billing processes, ensuring accurate coding, verifying patient eligibility and maintaining compliance with medical billing regulations. This role is crucial in facilitating the financial operations of our ophthalmic ambulatory surgery center and ensuring that all claims are processed efficiently.
Duties
- Prepare and submit accurate medical billing claims to insurance companies and patients.
- Review patient records for completeness and accuracy, ensuring all necessary documentation is included.
- Utilize medical coding systems such as ICD-9 to assign appropriate codes for diagnoses and procedures.
- Follow up on unpaid claims and manage the collections process for outstanding balances.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical terminology, billing regulations, and coding practices.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to resolve discrepancies in patient records or billing issues.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Assist in the management of medical records to ensure they are accurate and accessible.
Skills
- Proficiency in medical billing software and systems.
- Strong understanding of medical coding practices, including DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) coding.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers.
- Experience in medical collections is a plus but not required.
- Knowledge of ICD-9 coding is preferred.
