REPORTS TO:                         Elementary Education Director   

 

SUPERVISES:                         None

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   10 months

 

QUALIFICATIONS:                __Current North Carolina Teacher Licensure

                                                __NC Licensure in Academically Gifted Education (88087)

            __Minimum of five years successful classroom teaching experience
            preferred

                                                __Bachelor’s degree; Master’s Degree in Education preferred

 

NATURE OF WORK:  The AIG Coordinator works under general supervision to perform a variety of professional work to address the academic, intellectual, social, and emotional needs of all gifted learners.  This position will be a support to the AIG teachers at the school level and will coordinate all aspects of the AIG program areas.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Provide support to teachers in their classroom through planning, coaching, and modeling.
  2. Create positive relationships with teachers and administrators.
  3. Meet with principals to determine school needs in regards to the AIG program areas.
  4. Coordinate and provide on-going staff development opportunities at the district and school levels.
  5. Oversee the development and implementation of differentiated curriculum.
  6. Oversee the Honors Portfolio Review process in the high school and work with teachers to ensure honors courses have the rigorous requirements necessary for that level of coursework.
  7. Oversee the planning and implementation of the district AIG Plan.
  8. Oversees the development of AIG protocol, guidelines, and procedures.
  9. Ensure system-wide implementation of the local AIG plan and accountability of the AIG program.
  10. Communicates with schools, outside agencies, and others regarding AIG program policies, procedures, and concerns.
  11. Serves as a liaison between the AIG program and NCDPI.
  12. Represents the AIG program at local, regional, state and/or national meetings.
  13. Maintains electronic and hard copy data on identified AIG students to include accurate Child Count data
  14. Serve on the Advisory Committee for AIG.
  15. Meet with teachers during grade level planning to assist with differentiation strategies.
  16. Stay abreast of research based instructional strategies by attending professional development sessions and reading professional educational research.
  17. Coordinate all AIG referral, screening and identification procedures.
  18. Work with AIG leads to ensure that all AIG folders and paperwork are in compliance.
  19. Oversees the AIG budget, purchasing of equipment, curriculum materials and office supplies for the AIG program areas.

 

PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to the AIG Coordinator job classification within the Curriculum & Instruction Department of Bertie County Schools.

 

Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.

 

Must be able to:

  • Operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, document cameras, and LCD projectors
  • Operate a motor vehicle
  • Compare, interpret, analyze and generate data and apply basic principles of statistics
  • Listen and communicate effectively in order to gather, convey or exchange information, including giving instructions, assignments or directions to subordinates or assistants
  • Respond appropriately to inquires or complaints
  • Use tact and courtesy when working and dealing with community
  • Read, comprehend, and prepare various kinds of communication and information including emails, correspondence, reports, articles, proposals, contracts, policies, charts, spreadsheets,  curriculum documents, staff development plans, educational forms and data
  • Write using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style
  • Speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence
  • Apply principles of logical, critical, creative or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Deal with abstract and concrete variables
  • Demonstrate and apply common sense understanding to carry out simple instruction and to make simple decisions
  • Interpret, infer, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate materials, resources, situations and problems to generate options and solutions
  • Interpret and carry out oral and/or written instructions
  • Demonstrate continued professional curiosity and growth
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of settings, using appropriate terminology and by telephone and email
  • Hear, speak, read, record, and explain information, communication, and procedures
  • Perform basic math functions to understand and interpret data, to balance budgets
  • Deal fairly with people beyond giving and receiving instructions
  • Perform under stress, deal with persons acting under stress and displaying emotional distress and adapt when confronted with emergency situations

The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal. The work is performed in the Central Office and schools.
