ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION
Qualifications: (1) Master’s degree from an accredited college or university required, Doctorate preferred.
(2) Certification as a Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent by the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts (DESE License # 1150 or 1151).
- Demonstrated competencies in system-wide (PreK-12) curriculum and instruction.
- Knowledge of and support for Waltham High School Education Plan.
- Previous experience as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction preferred.
- Previous experience as a building principal is preferred.
Evaluates: Directors of: English Language Arts 6-12, ELA K-5, History/Social Science 6-12, Mathematics, Science/Health, ELL, World Languages, Fine & Performing Arts, Physical Education/Athletics, Educational Technology/Library Media, Career/Technical Education, Math and Literacy coaches, K-5 Science Specialists and Administrative Assistant.

Description of Duties:
- Assists in the development and operation of the annual budget.
- Works with directors to coordinate and supervise all educational programs including all systemic curriculum and instruction initiatives and related professional development.
- Conducts staff meetings as needed to interpret changes in Mass. Curriculum Frameworks or other curriculum and instruction issues including MCAS initiatives that impact the system.
- Evaluates DESE educational recommendations to determine compatibility with local curriculum and instruction initiatives.
- Monitors instructional requirements and needs within the system. Works with the Superintendent in developing recruitment strategies and procedural guidelines.
- Supervises and assists staff responsible for performance evaluation in the planning and implementation of effective programs of curriculum and instruction.
- Evaluates and reviews the performance of assigned staff.
- Coordinates and disseminates information on curriculum and instruction to the School Committee and the public.
- Oversees all summer programming including credit recovery and enrichment programs
- Remains abreast of developments and innovations in the field by reading current and cogent literature, attending professional society and association meetings and conferences, and discussing relevant issues with others in the field.
- Coordinates all in-service programs and workshops at the administrative and teaching levels and oversees District professional development issues.
- Initiates and assists in grant writing for the system.
- Prepares and submits reports and other documents as required by the Superintendent and/or School Committee.
- Serves as the school system spokesperson for the reporting out of all systemic assessment results including state mandated programs such as MCAS.
- Oversight and coordination of teacher evaluation process through TeachPoint management in collaboration with the Administrator of Human Resources
- Works closely with the Administrator of Grants on the identification of and use of funds, specifically Title I, Title II, and Title III
- Performs other management tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Superintendent or School Committee may from time to time assign or delegate.
Salary Range: $175,000-$190,000
