Director of Student Services
Position Overview:
The Director of Student Services provides leadership, strategic oversight, and expertise in the development, implementation, and evaluation of specialized student support programs. This role encompasses responsibility for Special Education (SPED), English Learner (EL) Programs, At-Risk, Section 504, Independent Study, Homebound Instruction, Counseling Services, Foster/Immigrant/Homeless, and Student Discipline Programs. The Director will ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, foster collaboration, and promote academic success and well-being across all student populations.
The Director of Student Services will be responsible for:
Special Education (SPED):
- Oversee the evaluation of special education programs and services to ensure they meet district goals and standards. Support the Director in allocating resources effectively, addressing staffing needs, and ensuring access to professional development opportunities to enhance instructional quality and program outcomes.
- Monitor SPED programs to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Coordinate with the SPED Team to provide professional development and support for instructional strategies and assessments.
- Prepare and submit SPED reports as required by the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) and other state or federal agencies.
- Counsel parents/guardians in resolving concerns related to SPED services and programs, as needed.
English Language Learners (ELL):
- Lead the implementation and oversight of the District EL Plan and EL Dashboard.
- Supervise ESL staff, coordinating assessments, professional development, and instructional improvement efforts.
- Maintain updated EL student status in Infinite Campus and compile data for annual program evaluations.
Section 504:
- Manage the implementation and oversight of 504 Plans, ensuring students receive appropriate accommodations and services.
- Provide training and support to school staff to enhance compliance and understanding of Section 504 requirements.
- Act as a resource to families, addressing concerns and facilitating resolutions.
All Student Service areas:
- Oversee Independent Study programs, ensuring alignment with state and district policies.
- Coordinate Homebound Instruction services for students unable to attend school due to medical or other valid reasons.
- Supervise counseling services to ensure student mental health and social-emotional needs are addressed effectively.
- Collaborate with counselors to provide academic guidance, behavioral interventions, and crisis support.
- Ensure compliance with the McKinney-Vento Act and other regulations concerning homeless and foster care students.
- Facilitate access to resources, and educational support for affected students.
- Lead the development and monitoring of student discipline policies and restorative practices to ensure fair and equitable treatment.
- Collaborate with school administrators to address discipline concerns and implement behavior management strategies.
- Assist in writing, managing, and reporting on grants related to student support programs. Compile and submit required state and federal reports for all supervised programs.
- Serve as the primary liaison with the Nevada Department of Education and other agencies for student services.
- Collaborate with school leaders, Academic Coordinators, and other stakeholders to support school improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with Title I, II, and III requirements and monitor program outcomes.
- Be directly Responsible for Civil Rights Data Reporting
- Attend board meetings and provide updates as necessary.
- Perform such other duties as assigned by CAO, duties that may be required by the board, directed by the Executive Director, or required by law
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Education, Administration, or a related field (required).
- Valid Nevada Administrative Endorsement or eligible to get it before starting (required).
- Minimum of five years of experience in education, with expertise in SPED, or related areas (preferred).
- Knowledge of Title I, II, and III requirements, as well as state and federal regulations concerning student services.
- Exceptional skills in data analysis, instructional leadership, and professional development facilitation.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in managing complex programs and fostering collaboration.
Salary : $95,000 - $115,000
