What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Student Services position at Central Office?
*This position directs all functions of Special Education and Student Services by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate coordinators/supervisors. The Director works collaboratively with school division staff and outside agencies to ensure the successful provision of educational services to students and families in compliance with state and federal regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES are to coordinate, supervise and evaluate Student Services to include Special Education, Psychological Services, Preschool Programs, School Social Work Services, and Student Services. Other duties may be assigned.
- Prepare local, state and federal reports and financial reimbursement requests for supervised programs.
- Keep all staff informed and operational procedures current on state and federal regulations.
- Coordinate Special Education evaluations, eligibility determinations and placements.
- Lead in the selection, supervision, and evaluation of instructional personnel in the areas of Special Education, Preschool, Student Services, and Related Services staff.
- Coordinate the assignment and deployment of special education teachers, aides and other related resources; budget needs and requests; implementation of special education services; regulatory requirements and maintenance of compliance
- Coordinates Section 504 grievance procedures with the Supervisor of Special Education as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.
- Collaborate with building administrators on teacher/program support, evaluation, intervention and documentation to ensure provision of services and achievement for students with disabilities.
- Serve on the Shenandoah County Community Policy and Management Team (CPMT).
- Administers the division’s Medicaid program including reimbursements.
- Provide leadership and serve as Virginia Department of Education contact for:
? Parent Resource Center
? Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC),
? Special Education (disabled, annual plan, state funds, complaints, private schools for the disabled, due process, federal data collection, state operated educational facilities and detention centers)
? Regional Special Education
- Develop and maintain compliance programs to meet legal requirements concerning students’ rights to privacy and due process of law in accordance to applicable laws and regulations.
- Prepare departmental budget, records, and reports (and) prepare financial reimbursement requests for supervised programs.
- Monitor and oversee the placement of students approved for placement in private residential schools through Family Assessment and Planning Team (FAPT).
- Assist in the planning and coordination of Shenandoah Valley Regional Program, including requests for budget requests, reimbursements, and monitor attendance and other reports.
- Provide leadership for the implementation and expansion of the Competent Learner Model (CLM).
- Serve as liaison between school division and National Counseling Group (Therapeutic Day Treatment and Integrated Services Program).
- Oversee implementation and use of the online program for Individualized Education Plans.
- Other assignments as deemed necessary by the Superintendent.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the evaluation and supervision of departmental office staff, Special Education Coordinators, FAPT Case Manager, Preschool Coordinator, Family Service Worker, School Psychologists, itinerant teachers, BCBAs, Occupational and Physical Therapists.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Master's degree (M. A. or M.S.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must hold the Virginia Postgraduate Professional Certificate with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision and have a valid Virginia driver's license.
EMPLOYMENT:
12-month contract-260 days per year, Administrative Salary Scale-Grade 1
