REPORTS TO: Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction

LENGTH OF WORK YEAR: 12 months

 

Job Purpose: The Director oversees the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of technology and all related tools in the district.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organize and supervise the district's network and institute preventive maintenance, repair, and safety procedures for school sites and the district.
  • Develop/modify staff development programs and materials to meet specific district needs related to the instructional use of technology.
  • Communicate information and provide technology professional development opportunities for district staff.
  • Coordinate the planning, implemenation, and evaluation of instructional technology, including instructional computing, instructional television, and distance learning.
  • Determine technology related equipment needs and requirements and prepare bid specifications for their procurement.
  • Oversee and coordinate the District's Comprehensive Information Systems and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
  • Work with the appropriate personnel in the planning, modification and construction of school facilities related to areas of responsibility.
  • Assist in the development of area-related adminsitrative guidelines and policies.
  • Prepare all required reports and maintatin all appropriate records.
  • Plan, submit, and monitor the annual budget for the technology department, and district instructional technology programs and services.
  • Supervise and coach assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals and make recommendations for appropriate employment action.
  • Work with a grant writing team, grant writer and community/business to establish alternative funding for technology.
  • Assist schools with long-range technology planning.
  • Report regularly and puntually to assigned work location and notify supervisor or designee of impending absence in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties requested by the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or higher in Computer Science, Computer Systems Networking, Computer Engineering, or related technology field.
  • Exhibit outstanding mastery of computer hardware, software, and network utilization.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and professional working relationships with co-workers.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience in technology planning
  • Experience in preparing and managing budgets

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Environment: Standard office setting; moderate travel; regularly perform inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Physical: Physical ability to perform moderate lifting; walking, sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; reacting quickly to emergency situations.
  • Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents.
  • Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction; the noise level in the work environment is moderate.
